Forest Druid Cu Chulainn Concept - First Look

Hi guys what's up! It's been a long time since I did a concept art thing so I've been working on this project during my spare time since last month. If you are familiar with Smite: Battleground of the Gods (PC game) you will recognize this guy, but in case you don't, take a look at Smite's Cu Chulainn here: https://www.smitegame.com/gods/cu-chulainn

In Smite, Cu Chulainn is a Warrior class character, but I've had this idea for some time about "what if he was a Mage?" So I'm working this as a character visual redesign to make that idea come true. Extra points if you're a fan of Fate series, you now know where I'm coming from haha.

The last pictures in this post showcase the early ideas of this design. They're all pretty similar since I took Cu's default in-game design as the main inspiration plus I already knew how he wanted to look like, more or less. I will be working on the Key Art (first picture) during these but I'm still a bit unsure how to approach the shading and such.. I'm tempted to experiment and try something in-between my cell-shading and some rendering.. I shall see. Also I don't now if will end up designing his Berserker form accordingly.. perhaps I will.. I will keep you updated on that.

I must say, I'm making this project for mere "fun", since I don't expect nor intend it to be taken as a fan skin concept to be implemented in the game (but if it applies for it, that's COOL!). Aside from making this as a self-indulgent project, I want to put into practice some stuff I've learned recently and apply it to a serious project. Wish me luck.

Next fanart that I will start working soon will be another illustration from Hades, this time it will be Achilles and Patroclus. I really like that game so much and it's so good in every aspect that I won't stop recommending it to you if you haven't tried it out yet!
