The flashback sequence is to tie back to the earlier pages where we saw a young Alex facing the Red Bride entity. It's also a chance to explain how he inherited the dagger and bring everything to a close in the final battle.
I've been churning these pages like mad during this lock-down period to keep myself productive and as a distraction from the anxiety inducing series of bad news out there. We are almost the end of this story, so keep a lookout for its conclusion soon!
