Little Exit/Problems poll

Hey!

Now that Virus has been out for almost 3 months and the initial surge of subscribers from Rising Stars has passed, I would like to ask all of you your most important reason for unsubscribing. After all, if my story has problems and I remain unaware of them, then I have no real chance of improving. That's why below you will find a few possible reasons you can choose to tell me what I should work on. And if your reason is not on this poll, I would really appreciate it if you could leave a comment with your opinion. I will also add 2-3 options unrelated to the story.

Of course, it should go without saying that this poll is directed to current and past readers of Virus. I am well aware that a lot of people are leaving due to the end of AUOBE.

Anyway, thanks for your time.

Got it. In the beginning, I tried giving everyone some background and what makes them go on, but I guess that I should have expanded on it more every once in a while instead of just leaving all that behind. This story is kinda a learning experience for me when it comes to writing group dynamics. AUOBE had some of that, but it was always in smaller doses and with 2-3 characters at best. Now I have to constantly juggle four characters while keeping them relevant. I definitely need to work on adding some conflict and more development for them. The only issue with this is that I would have to slow down the pace of progression more, as proper development takes time. I will see what I can do on that front to improve. As for melee combat, I don't really agree with you. Most of what Isaac does is basic stuff and work of battle instincts. Just wait until he faces someone who can use their weapon properly and is on the same power level as him.

For me there isn't anything that would cause me to drop the book but definitely areas to work on. Similar to what has been said before the characters feel, flat?, I guess would be the best description of them. We have some insight into the MC but very little of the others, their fears, their thoughts, the grief they must be feeling and the struggles they are having with the world changes. The lack of clashing between them only furthers this as everything feels too 'go with the flow and chill' for a group of vastly different people including two who we have been told hated each other on sight. This also applies to the dialogue between everyone, it feels predictable in a bad way, as in instead of knowing the dialogue from understanding the characters I know that people are just going to kinda go along with the best option for the MC without much pushback just 'I know I had no idea about anything even remotely like this X days ago but here is my great idea that we are all going along with.' which take away from the rest of the group. In AUOBE both Leo and Nyx feel very fleshed out and I have understanding of both their characters. this also extends to other characters just because they are written with more emotion and depth than these seem to currently have. My other aspect that I have noticed is the development of the MC in melee combat, I know it was mentioned that the Root of Blood was giving him small nudges but it feels like he is acting like someone who has handled a weapon for far longer than ~10 days without a skill giving him knowledge and with no prior experience. Overall though these are just my outside views and I am enjoying the story as a whole and looking forward to seeing where you take it!
