What a motherfucking crossover!

John Reedy

In the yearish since this has been posted, I’ve learned so much about history because of Chapos and Mike Duncans podcasts about history. Thanks for bringing a higher level of culture and understanding of the world around me!

Alex

Some people ask the questions and some people answer them.

Mike Duncan also did a podcast covering the entire history of Rome. It was fantastic. Also check out his book "The Storm before the Storm." An excellent book on the first Roman civil war.

A history book podcast sounds dope. If they do a pod on EP Thompson or Carlo Ginzburg I'll be all over that.

Re: English influence on later revolutionaries, Bernard Bailyn’s “The Ideological Origins of the American Revolution” has a chapter on it, tho Bailyn’s project is a liberal one that flattens any class contradictions and ignores the more levelling tendencies of the American revolution. Jefferson famously quoted Richard Rumbold’s scaffold speech: "none comes into the world with a saddle on his back, neither any booted and spurred to ride him." There were certainly American revolutionaries who did see Cromwell as a hero, and radical republican ideologists like Milton and Harrington were hugely influential as well, tho it seems the current literature leaves this pretty unexplored. Later on obviously the French Revolution is overshadowing, but Eduard Bernstein has a great book on the English Revolution called “Cromwell and Communism” that might have been his last major work as an orthodox marxist before slipping into revisionism, it’s available on the MIA. Trotsky has a handful of articles on the English revolution as well that are interesting to look at.

It is worth a mention that the History of Rome was carried on by Robin Pierson at The History of Byzantium podcast that is ongoing, and one of the best history podcasts out there. It has been going since 2012 and has just finished covering the Fourth Crusade.

erik w bjorke

Parliaments were originally an organ of power for Anglo Norman kings. The idea that they were from the “Anglo Saxon” period is anachronistic

Clammy_Damp
