Added 2024-10-23 18:02:50 +0000 UTCOn this week’s episode the massacre continues as Will and Hesse get slimed up and examine two horror films by Brian Yuzna that play more like grotesque sex comedies.
In From Beyond (Stuart Gordon, produced by Yuzna, 1986), horror icons Jeffrey Combs, Ken Foree and Barbara Crampton team up to give a kinky body horror spin on HP Lovecraft, which features deranged and horny scientists who invent a trans-dimensional “resonator” that opens a gateway to “the beyond” but also makes you nut in your pants. Pineal glands throb and perverse flesh abominations abound!
Then in Society (Brian Yuzna, 1989) we get one of the most unforgettable sequences in film history in a movie that plays like a “very special” episode of Saved by the Bell about incest, until you learn what “The Shunting” is.

2024-10-25 22:14:49 +0000 UTCAttended a Q&A with Yuzna last year. I asked why the movie Dagon is called Dagon and not Shadow Over Innsmouth since that’s the Lovecraft story being adapted. His answer: because Dagon sounds cooler. Love that man.

The Herbert West archetype that recurs in his roles is always welcome. Also excellent that he works with Barbara Crampton in these films. Spot on on the Debra Harry Videodrome comparison. Exactly what I noticed as well. Excellent season! Dog will hunt! Just watched Castle Freak. Another great Combs and Crampton film.

Thank god for uncensored directors cuts, it's intact if you watch it now.

He told a great story about traumatizing a bunch of children working on a kids show on the same studio lot in Italy as from beyond because he would walk around in the full Crawford transformed makeup.

Yuzna was sitting a couple rows ahead of us. roars of laughter, and then what i can only describe as audible disgust. gotta be gratifying for the guy after this one slipped through the cracks 30+ years ago. long live everyone involved with this movie.
