The Dragon Reborn SUMMARY

I'm an editing powerhouse right now, ya'll. Here's Book 3. As always, feedback is so welcome! We want to make this the best it can be.

Big hugs,

So, the beginning. No mention of how Rand has started to channel Crazy Lews Therin... kinda subtly? He started here, right? And the Ta'veren effect went crazy in this book, with Rand. Also Mat, later on. Fun read. haha. And he's on foot. So it's wild Moiraine failed to catch up to him all the way to Tear. Love the Dream Tel'arangeal. The Mobius Ring. One of those fantasy artifact i dreamt of having back in the day. Mat and Thom is a hoot. Love those two. Their scene are hilarious. And no, Thom does not agree to follow Mat to Andor for friendship. He wanted to commit suicide by Morgase, his ex. haha. Anyway, during their travel, he taught Mat how to play Stones (i imagine it was something like Japanese Go) and Mat demolished him.

Until this video I totally forgot how Julian became part of the larger group

Yup, these three first books are definitely the most pulpy of the series. Weird fantasy stuff that's all over the place. that doesn't really come up again. Things like the ways, the portal stones, shadar logoth, and the weird endings with the green man and the battles that are very weird, the chords coming out of Rand and Ishamael, and Ishamael himself with the fire face. Traditional hero's journey stuff. It's definitely the fourth book where it becomes the big political drama that it's known as. This was why I was skeptical about the show since these first three aren't that great so adapting them isn't going to win a lot of people over after they adored the big epic political stories of Game of Thrones.

Finally completed this book. Amazing the foretelling dreams Egwene was experiencing! Only problem was she didn't know how to interpret them, but still! Seeing Perrin with the wolves, Mat placing an eye on a set of scales, and Rand with the Sword that is not a Sword! And she had others as well. Mat gambling, Perrin with a falcon on his shoulder, and again Rand sitting by a fire. All true dreams.

Carol Briscoe

i think when discussing Egwene's Accepted test mentioning the weird resonance and the fact that she forces the return portal in her last "vision" to reopen after it had closed are important points to mention. 22min~ish mark.

Bryan

you know i literally just listened to the chapter where Egwene says she will “never wear gray again” and funnily enough she is literally wearing gray in that chapter. Nyaneave remarks that Her, Egwene and Elayne are.

mk9beatz

That is a good point.

Christine Renner

Come back as you go. I’m right there with you. Finished book 6 (got side tracked with ship of Magic and Stormlight 😅) waiting summaries 4 and 5 before I dive back in.

Azazel Prime

Great stuff! Love these. Good work both of you <3 Have you explained how it is that Hopper is suddenly "alive" in Tel'aran'rhiod? If not, you need to.

Strero

Another stellar entry

Price Everett

44:26 she punches her because they still can't channel at that point. Once she's fully unconscious they have access to the one power again. I do like to think that she definitely would have punched her anyway though 😂

Kevyn

Such a good recap!!! The comedy and the details are a very good balance. Not too much of one or the other. I was sad to see the cover art explanation leave.

Michael Provenzano

I just watched these all back to back to back...thank you for keeping the end of my work day engaging.

Azazel Prime

Also 45:50 Perrin purposely goes into the same Hedgehog trap as Faile which is why he’s in the dream too strongly

Bekki Richards

Loving these! Just noticed some details are mixed up around 43:50 ish mark. Egwene still has the dream ring and doesn’t use an a’dam to mess with the black sisters in the dream (that’s Nyneave in a later book). I’m pretty sure she just shields one and accidentally stills the other outside the cell.

Bekki Richards

I think each one of the summaries has gotten better. I'm not sure if that's because the books get better or if it's because D+K are getting their process down. Maybe both

Phil Parkman

Aaaaaaa I’m enjoying these so much

Lonk_ daBoi

looooooove

Manda Myers

Man... I'm really enjoying these, but im only in the middle of book 6. Do I keep watching these as they are finished? Or do I just come back to them as I go? lol

Eric Horton

By the gods I remember this book (rocks), and was glad there was a next one. Little did I know 4 was the definition of awesome... Technical stuff: the weird autofocus business while zooming seems to be mostly better in this vid. Did notice that AF is catching the movement of the wand and following that, seemingly. This (stuff) is A W E S O M E and keep going.

Allan Meyer

Thanks so much for these videos! I can't wait for the next one. TSR is my fave of the books because ... Mat stuff.

Chris Tsang

Else is not sent home but to a farm and encounters someone unfortunate there.

Christine Renner

Woohoo! God these are good videos, thank you both so much for the effort you are putting in! It would be worth noting that Perrin initially hoped Leya had dodged death because there was a moment where Rand lost control of saidin and caused a big earthquake and she had blood all over her face, which is what Min saw. But then the attack happens and she does indeed perish. A good way the book proved that even if you think it’s been dodged, Min’s visions always happen. No one knows callandor is a sa’angrael, it’s suspected, but only the Forsaken truly know what it is. Simion asks Perrin to ask Moiraine, he’s too scared to ask her directly. Gaul is the best, justice for Gaul from the show! Sammael is just Lord Brend, Illian doesn’t do High Lords, they have the Council of Nine. There was a moment Siuan and Verin are talking about the possibility of letting Mat die so that they can let someone else blow the Horn as he is now bound to it, and they might like someone they can reliably control. Good lore on the Horn for later books in that scene. The shape of the twisted ring is called a mobius strip 😊 Also in that scene Verin is shown to have Corianin’s papers on her study of the ring, but she deliberately held them back from Egwene. Mat vs the princes in the books was even more impressive because he was so weak from the Healing, and he still kicked booty! Hammar was the warder leading the training, Jearom was the legendary swordsman who was beaten by a farmer with a quarterstaff. It was a novice who came and told them about the Black Ajah belongings, not Accepted. Also it was Else Grinwell who met Rand and Mat in book 1 when they stayed at her parents farm. Siuan also later mentions she never sent Else to them, in fact Else had been sent home. The other great thing about Mat’s luck is that sometimes he loses at the right moment as well, because winning would have been the unlucky outcome at that moment. Nyneave is deliberately ranting in that moment to make herself angry enough to Heal. With Turning mentioned in Egwene’s test and then mentioning the 13 myrdraal again in Tear, definitely worth talking about what that is because Sheriam does explain is to her. It was a private dining room Faile went into and a hedgehog trap. Be’lal kept pushing Rand at callandor because he knew it was a sa’angrael and he couldn’t touch it himself until Rand drew it first.

Nikita Balfour

Third trail from Egwene, you mentioning the 13 Aeis Sedai being able to force "her" into the shadow, I'm pretty sure you meant him, Rand, right?

Dominik Haas

At 45:35 tis a hedgehog trap

Rhianna

and for the avoidance of doubt (love that I get to use a lawyer sentence here): this was awesome. and super enjoyable!

Christine Renner

At 43:40 Egwene still has the ter’angreal in the prison cell. The black aja were so cocky they didn’t even search the three of them.

Rhianna

hello - it is me again! Let's get into it: - Leya tries to tackle a Myrdraal coming for Perrin (42) - Agree with Perrin being the most consistent although I think he gets more self-confident throughout the books and specifically with jumps from books 1 to 4; specifically the first book you have a lot of not even wanting to move for fear of breaking something - What struck me on my last re-read was how confrontational Perrin is with Moraine (Rand as well) - the only one who really is not is Mat but I think that is for lack of opportunity - Rand plays the flute and not the lute - LOL at the stone foot prints because same - I believe Rand has actually not said until this point that he does not like hurting women — there is a scene in book 2 where Mat/Perrin(?) are hesitant about hurting a woman and Rand is sort of meh about it - Simeon approaches Perrin to ask about Moraine (77) which leads to a fun little erruption of “you should not talk” and “how would I know” which book 1 Perrin could never have - Perrin consistently calls Faile Zarine throughout this book (in real life and POV) until see later - We got the Egwene crush already in book 2 - and to be fair the Elayne one as well - Pointing out that the Egwene scene stabbing Rand has already been mentioned during the flickerflicker which really supports the theory that the arches are other worlds - No overhyping possible :D - Hammar (the warder teaching swordsmanship and who is a blademaster) with the very sad end which really should have been some character moment development for someone but was not - “The most beautiful woman appears - argh, it’s Lanfear” - :D - I did not find that story with the third man being hit over the head with a quarterstaff and being a blade master - I would recommend re-reading that rant from Nynaeve (367) - she does not say anything about women having to be women, she just rants about people harming each other and poking holes into each other - Presuming you are leaving the Elayne saying Rand’s mother must be a maiden out on purpose? - They are going to the wisdom equivalent because they think the Black Ajah would find them in an inn and Elayne suggests a thief taker which they need to organise - ah the irony - Poor Tallanvor picking up the ta'veren breaking into the palace two books running - Mat figures out his luck in a tavern (496) and not the wisdom’s place - It is a hedgehog not a badger and it is not in the study but a private dining room (which they all use and which is probably one of those incompetency moments of the shadow) - This moment being incidentally also the first moments he calls her Faile (532) - The Rand scene is heightened by Rand raising Callander over his head - Agree on the really nice last chapter clean up! - Also nice point on book four being “the” book because originally only three were planned

Christine Renner

The part where you said Egwene test was goes and it’s foreshadowing something made me sad and happy …. On book 6 😭🥲

amador alves santos

I absolutely love these

ValkyrieCain

19:00 I think it would also be good to mention here that Aes Sedai were thinking of letting Mat die so the Horn is free to use again

Eldar

Umm yes delicious, I’ll take 11 more please

matin mustafa

Thanks for this! But you a mixed it a little in 9:30. This dude asks Perrin about it, not Moraine directly

Eldar

Loved it. Chef's kiss
