Near-Sighted Sea Eagle

Her boyfriend, a practicing sorcerer, assured her he knew the solution. She hated wearing glasses but was so near sighted that she'd bump into things without them. Contact lenses were out of the question. She couldn't wear them without discomfort. Glasses just weren't fashionable at all. She wanted a different, magical solution. He'd done a bit of reading on the internet and discovered that the osprey has absolutely wonderful vision. He figured that a simple exchange spell would give her the eyes of a sea eagle and she'd be able to ditch all of the painful and unfashionable 'normal' solutions. After a few weeks of cajoling and explaining how safe the spell was, she finally agreed.

They met in his apartment, where he'd set everything up (even magic required apparatus of sorts). Standing in the centre of a strange symbol drawn on the floor in, of all things, pink salt, she held the feather of the sea eagle. He began by suffusing everything with odd smelling smoke. He began an incantation in some strange language she'd never heard or even heard of. Curious, she interrupted him. He explained it was the ancient High Magic language. Unfortunately, once interrupted, the spell had to be restarted. This time, she wisely held any questions for after the spell's conclusion. At the end, with a flourish, he made a strange symbol in the air with the glowing tip of a magic wand. Oddly the symbol actually remained floating in the air. When he stabbed through the symbol towards her, she watched, wide-eyed, as the symbol flew towards her and was absorbed by her body. She felt her body twist, her legs shorten, her fingers fuse. Within minutes, feathers began to sprout and soon covered her body from breast to tail.

"Oops!" was all her boyfriend could think to say. "That wasn't supposed to happen."
She looked about herself in astonishment.

"I'm still near-sighted," she protested. "I still can't see farther than my hand - er - wing. And I'm hungry. Got any fish about?"
