Exploring visuals with a MIDI controller and master effects is key for me, as it optimizes the output and syncs with the music. Here, you can see the mapping of my KORG NanoKontrol2. If you have one, you can easily load an .xml file to play with the HIVE visuals PACK comp. Using these effects, I explore and manipulate visual loops—this is where the magic happens! It's a process that's hard to fully comprehend until you see how all the pixels and colors from different elements mix when projected onto the surface of a stage. There are so many factors involved: the layering in Resolume, the strength and type of the projector's light source, and the material of the installation surface—whether it's stage paint, fabrics, UV paint, or something else. Fine-tuning Resolume to make the visuals pop is not only essential but also a fun part of achieving the best outcome for me.
A few important master effects explained a bit.
Master Speed (for this to work I render my clips slower so I can speed them up and slow them down. the speed is set from 1-10 so it will not go under 30fps)
Add Subtract effect (intensity of red green and blue channel in combinations with hue rotation is the best. elements dissapear others come back. it is pure fun. this works great when your color code is simpler in your visuals. I oftten render a visuals only with 3 colors R G B.
Master Saturation (HUE & Levels) is a combination of 2 master effects HUE to reduce saturation and levels will push brighness at the same time. check it out in the master effects.
BPM Color FX (animating add subtract red and blue channel on BPM)
Strobe Back layers (not on the master. I use it as an effect layer only for background layers which looks great)
ChromaKey usually I use it to filter out green and replace it with grey. this effect also compensates BPM Color FX which will make it green on the bpm.
Edge Detection Adding just a little bit of Edge Detection can boost the brightness of your visuals. This can be really useful when you're working with weaker projectors or when you want to thicken thin lines in your visuals.
