Genredrome
Added 2025-04-19 18:18:44 +0000 UTCFor the last couple of years, Oliver Harper and I have been doing Zoom commentaries on mainstream genre movies over on his YouTube channel. (It's kind of separate to the BMB persona because it's mainstream stuff, but I'm going to make them available here anyway as the partnership has proved popular with Ollie's viewers.)
As people seem to like the dynamic, we want to see if there's interest in a kind of ‘bells and whistles’ video based commentary. So we’re trialing ‘Genredrome’, for which Ollie and I actually get together to watch the movie (sometimes with a guest), and do the commentary on camera. Then we edit and composite the footage alongside the actual movie, and some additional on-screen info.
It isn’t Earth-shattering, but I think the first few episodes have turned out really well, albeit with some inevitable minor teething problems (we have some mic issues to fix, and I need to be less shouty when talking about Star Wars prequels. It's a problem I’ve had for years). Geography, hardware, and other expensive realities mean we will have to charge in order for this to be potentially viable. The first three episodes available today are 'Masters of the Universe', 'The Running Man' and 'Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace'. We also have 'Starship Troopers', 'Death Wish 3', and 'Attack of the Clones' in the bag. So it's a bit more mainstream than my usual arena, but it's going to be genre and era appropriate with a good dose of schlock!
The regular audio commentaries will continue as before, nothing is changing.
