With the former head lady in waiting wearing the hairpin she probably bullied Lishu into giving her, she overstepped her station and gave Jinshi the opportunity to drop the hammer on her. Overstepping her station would be a serious breach of propriety that Jinshi can now deal with and question the other ladies about their behaviors. Maomao hasn't got close enough to the new eunuchs to spot Suirei.

She definitely could fire them and send them home as well... but they'd likely get some insane punishment which Lishu seem's to nice/naive to dish out.

If she wants them removed then she can send him a letter but that could also end in punishment for them and she probably too nice for that. Jinshi and anybody else who is not her family cannot interfere without it causing a political issue just like how no one but the Emperor can stop Loulan’s dad from getting her more ladies.

The ladies in waiting are mostly provided by the families, so basically the father of the other head of the family is making the decision who to send. The concubine might get little say in who gets assigned.

2025-04-12 00:42:34 +0000 UTCLishu's situation sadly wont get explored in depth until next season but she is overall in a pretty comlicated situation, in the rear palace she is seen by many as someone who doesn't fulfil her role (since the emperor dosen "visit" her) while occupying a spot as high consort and to her family she is just a political tool. The ladies in waiting for high consorts are usually arranged by the family of the consort, like Gyokuyou's ladies in waiting all being from her hometown and having known each other before joining the rear palace, or Lihua having her cousin as head lady in waiting, or Loulan getting dozens of ladies in waiting added on because her father asks. As for the exam, well they are trying to weed out men specifically, and it's quite effective at that, the idea that a woman might want to serve as a eunuch isn't really a problem they though about. It's usually not really worth it for a woman on a personal level to do so, if they wanted to be in the rear palace they can just enter as a servant woman, work for 2 years there, get some money and have something positive on their resume after it, now you even can get some basic education along with it.
