So yeah, after this episode I am even more convinced that the Shisui is Loulan was setup as a red herring and not a reality. My suspicion has been for awhile now that she is *related* to Loulan. The full reveal here that she is in fact a "Fake" servant that is a spy... apparently by "accident" (due to accidentally becoming Maomao's friend) supports even more so that it just isn't realistic for her to be Loulan herself. As ya'll said in this episode... if she was... who is standing in as Loulan right now? We even got a commentary from Maomao wondering how long shes been away from the palace to give us this sense that even though we're only days into her disappearance with Jinshi that Maomao's perspective might be much further along then that. I stand by my theory that Shisui is just related to Loulan. Suirei being related to Loulan also makes sense considering what we understand of her actions/motives in the past. She was probably the major player doing the plotting for Loulan (makes sense with all of the brief "foreshadowing" shots we get of Loulan getting whisperred to / talked to with no VO.). Shisui was the sister that keeps Suirei in contact with the outside-rear-palace part of the family. Now she's gotta play the role of servant/spy becuz otherwise Maomao could have outted her being a not-real-servant sooner if so. Credit to RPSiege above, I hadn't considered that she might be Loulan's twin but it does make perfect sense. Works with the twin setup via the foreigners. Might be why they hangin out as well since in old days there was a lot of myticism/mythology around Twins. Works well for the whole "Emperor doesn't always recognize her" stuff that was gossiped about awhile back. Ye. Very good theory that mostly works with my own!

2025-05-04 11:22:28 +0000 UTCAfter this episode I’m wondering if Shisui might be a twin sister to the Concubine rather than the concubine herself. This season has a dropped a couple of instances of identical (looking) siblings, the foreigner twins and triplet like set that works for Gyoukyou (I want to say they aren’t actual triplets but look very much alike). I feel like the writer might be laying the groundwork for that reveal. I wonder if they two sisters occasionally swap spots and that’s why it’s hard for the emperor to recognize her at times

2025-05-03 14:48:25 +0000 UTC- I think the napping scene on the boat was Shisui being sad because she knew her time as Shisui with Maomao and Xiaolan was over. -Suiren/Shisui- I don't think the "sui" was a family name. Chinese families/clans can/do have naming conventions [long paragraphs on formal and informal Chinese naming conventions deleted because this wall of text is already too much 😅] but I don't think that's what happened here. I think Shisui is a fake name and she chose the "sui" as a cheeky little homage to Suiren. The closest I can think of to an English naming example would be something like if Suiren was named "Roseanna", Shisui was named "Primrose", and Maomao left behind mangled picture of a rose. Our team can't quite figure out what the heck she drew until Seki-u says "rose" and then her exchange with Jinshi would've been something like: Seki-u: Rose? This kind of looks like a flower. Maomao hung out with a servant girl named Primrose. Jinshi: That's not the only 'rose' we know... Roseanna...
