2026-01-10 19:30:23 +0000 UTCJust as the stone has many names, it too can come in many forms. A crystal, a liquid... ... a man. Homonculus is an artificial life form, probably created in an attempt to get closer to the Truth, and the actual process of its creation is never explained. Not going back to check, but some, if not all, of the names you talked about at the end were the same.

2026-01-10 13:22:16 +0000 UTCHohenheim's name is a reference to the most famous medieval alchemist, Paracelsus, whose full name was Philippus Aureolus Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim, which is why Bombastus was one of the homunculus suggestions. Also, the notion of a homunculus as a small human who grants wishes (often with a monkey's paw issue) comes from medieval europe and was later adopted by Goethe on his play Faust part II, where the main character summons a small human in a flask.

2026-01-10 12:24:49 +0000 UTCFun fact: Winry's piercings were gift from Ed and Al. One of the OVAs tells this story. Let me know if you guys interesting about the OVAs, I have those and I don't think any streaming platforms have it.

2026-01-10 12:11:22 +0000 UTCA few interesting details: The mural (transmutation circle) they stand in front of during the flashback where the ritual takes place is the same one Ed stood in front of in the desert ruins when they met Maria Ross again. These ruins were called "The Ruins of Xerxes." Another curious detail: At the beginning of the first opening, you see the same mural, followed by a young blond man whom you might initially mistake for Edward, but who is actually the young Van Hohenhaim. This only becomes clear 40 episodes later when he is first shown in his younger form.
