Exposed

Another day at work. I've been working on fixing these cables for a second day now. Just a few concrete slabs to block the road and no place to hide from the scorching summer sun. Suddenly I felt soft tingling in my fingertips, my throat went utterly dry, and my head spun like crazy. My vision just went black, and I had to grab on the concrete slab to stop myself from falling. All I could see was dark. It felt like the whole world was moving beneath me.  I held onto the concrete as hard as I could, but it slipped from my hands as if someone pulled it away from me. Then it suddenly stopped. I found myself on the ground, feeling exhausted. Some huge piece of canvas covering me completely. My legs hanging in the air over an edge. Have I fallen into the sewer hatch? The canvas felt strangely familiar to me, but it seemed to go on forever. I was trying to imagine how huge it must have been. I started to crawl away from the edge, trying to find my way out of my canvas jail.  I located an opening soon, and I crawled out from below the canvas. The sharp sunlight has blinded me for a moment. Then my eyes adjusted, and I started to see my surroundings. When I turned my head looking around, I wasn't able to make any sense of what I saw. Everything felt unnatural, unsharp. I was feeling dizzy, like on a rollercoaster. Soon I got used to the new way I perceived the world around me, and then I realized where I was. And what just happened to me. I sighed: "Oh, no, no, no. Not me!"

I've heard about the so-called "Shrinking syndrome" before. It was a rare disease first documented about a year ago.

I have only ever heard about a few cases, and to my best knowledge, there was no cure to it. The other men who have been affected by the syndrome all shrank down to something between 1 to 3 feet. That was not my case. There I stood atop the concrete slab I leaned against a while ago. I realized the canvas prison I just managed to free myself from was my own shirt.

I walked across the concrete block, trying to figure out the best way to get down, but it was just too high. I must be only a few inches tall now. Everything seemed so huge! I had no idea what to do. The world started to feel so hostile. I was terrified by the vast open space around me. A minute later, I've heard voices in the distance. They were two women having a conversation, and they were undoubtedly going in my direction as their voices grew louder each second. Hope has filled my head and quickly grew over my fear. Help was coming! Then I saw them as they walked around the corner. Even at the tremendous distance, they seemed so huge to me. Their movements unnatural, like they were floating in the air. They quickly drew near to me with every step, focused on their conversation, unaware of my presence. I needed to get their attention! I raised my arms and waved above my head. I wanted to scream for help, but as they approached, their gigantic bodies filled my entire view, and a sensation of fear quickly overcame my mind. Every single one of my instincts telling me to run away from these massive creatures. I knew it was their unimaginable scale telling my brain to hide. I tried to scream, but my throat closed. I just gulped, frozen with fear staring at their massive form.

Then one of the girls spoke, looking in my direction.

"What's that, Bridget? Down here." Said the blonde

"Hmm, some clothes. Weird...... Oh! My! GOD!" Bridget said, locking her eyes with mine. She crouched and bent forward, quickly bringing her face closer to me.

I just covered my bare crotch with my hands staring straight into the giant's face. I was petrified. The other girl approached me from the other side in the meantime.

"WOW! I had no idea they could get sooo TINY!" she giggled. The tone of her voice made me feel really uncomfortable. It sounded like she was referring to an object, not a human being.

"Calm down Lucy. Don't you see how scared he is?!" Bridget spoke with a friendly tone.

"Hey, little fellow. What happened here?" she continued.

I was so scared of these giants! I just couldn't speak or move no matter how hard I tried. My lizard brain took over me.

"Perhaps they can't speak anymore when they get this small." Said Lucy.

"He's so adorable! Like a real-life Ken doll! I just can't believe it!" she pressed her chest against the concrete block, trying to get closer to me.

"I...just...have to." Said Bridget with a mesmerized look on her face, bringing her hand closer to me.

I knew something was not right here. Both girls felt too carried away with their actions. Bridget pierced me with her eyes the whole time without a single blink.
