I agree! Something I've noticed when talking to new people (and even when I was new myself) is that shonen, particularly battle/action shonen, are always pushed first and most to people getting into the medium; so whenever someone ends up not liking the most popular shonen series, they write off the whole genre/medium.

Shojo: Manga targeted at tween and teen girls. But really it mostly for everyone now Seinen: Manga targeted at adult men (18+).junji ito fall here Josei: Manga targeted at adult women (18+) The two genre above are manga were you can find horror and sex heavy stuff Kodomomuke: Manga targeted at young children
