As fortifications go, this small watch tower is so spartan and practical it is almost quaint, its beacon rarely used in peaceful times, and manned as a mere formality. But in times of trouble, such places serve as a crucial line of defense, and a warning of trespassers, raiders, or even invading armies. Travelers might find it a convenient sanctuary to pass the night, and an even better warning sign, should the glow of its fires appear in the distance.
This started out as a test map for some terrain feature assets I'm working on to add some more visual interest and better articulate verticality and transitions between terrain types, and I decided to cap the little hilltop off with a watch tower and small living quarters for the stationed soldiers.
