Q1) Do my changes stay?
If you save your scene and load the scene again, the changes you made will be saved too.
Q2) Can I import an item I have changed into another scene?
Yes. You could create a scene with a TV only, change it with RenderEditor and then save the scene. Go to a different scene and import your scene with the TV and it would keep your RenderEditor changes.
Warning: If you apply textures to a character and then you replace the character, all of your changes will be lost. They do not carry to the next character.

This is the easy method. The hardest method is making your own items then saving them as new items so they are a permenent part of your inventory and not relying on RenderEditor.
