SoS Chapter 6 Sneak Peek (Sin's Route)

The next two sneak peeks will be romantic in nature. Chapter 6 is mostly a looking inward kind of chapter and relationship focused one. The only ones who won't have anything like it will obviously be the three LI's who aren't really around.

"So, what? You want answers now? Because you won't receive them."

Sin laughs, shaking their head as they peer over at you. "Not everything is a transaction. Have you ever heard of a thing called gifts?"

"Yes, and even those come with little strings attached. Translucent strings that the gifter pulls at the most inconvenient times."

"You know little about me. This much I understand. So, let me save you the time of learning this on your own and simply tell you. If I need something, I ask for it. If I want a question answered, I ask it and await an answer. If I don't receive one and it's in my means to learn it on my own, I do that. I have never taken or demanded something that is not mine to demand." Sin's gaze has an odd effect on you. Part of you wishes to crumple up and disappear under a stare that is meant to be heavy. But there is a greater side that wants to continue meeting it. It feels no fear; it feels much of the opposite: peace.

"Thank you," you finally manage to say. Though, why it took so long for those words to come out escapes you. You're unsure whether or not you can truly trust their words and the deeper meaning behind them. Not because they are a liar but because some damage has stretched far too deep. A rot that has branched deeper and deeper until it reached your core and ensnared it with mephitic toxins so nothing else dared come near. And nothing has … no one has.

"Why?"

Sin cocks their head to the side, staring at you for a moment before sighing. "Do you really not understand what a gift is?"

"No. I mean, why do you care about doing any of this for me? I doubt your other charges get this much attention."

"You would be correct," they respond so readily as if the answer is just as evident as their explaining the meaning of a gift. "Have I not made it obvious that I'm interested in you?" Yes. No. You're not sure. You're not sure of a lot of things. There is something so pleasant in their matter-of-fact and straight-to-the-point answers. They leave no room for doubts or clarifying questions. And yet, it terrifies you.

Sin seems to understand your discomfort and turns so that their entire attention is focused on you. They wish to reach out with their bottom two arms, but a moment of doubt causes them to draw back.

"If this is uncomfortable because I am your superior, then you simply need to tell me as much. I understand that some feel … odd about such connections."
