A new direction...
Added 2018-12-06 14:00:20 +0000 UTCSo, for the past year I've been thinking about what to do with RinmaruGames, once flash is gone and the online flash gaming is lost for good.
I tried html5, which was a disaster. Lots of problems with the language that makes it almost impossible to create detailed and large dress up games like ours. The only option for now seems to be turning to the mobile app market.
But that would mean leaving rinmarugames.com empty, and I can't fill it up with links redirecting to mobile app stores.
I really don't want to leave a website I've worked so hard to build for 10 years.
So, one of the solutions I thought up was turning rinmarugames into more of a free online otome game / visual novel platform once flash is completely gone.
I enjoy making up stories and the episodic content may be fun in an online platform.
Again, these will be completely free. No tickets, coin buying or anything.
I will keep the website up via advertisement monetization. So you will enjoy playing otome games for free, and I will be able to keep my website.
That way, I can move dress up games to the mobile app market, and keep rinmarugames up to date with free online interactive stories.
I have no idea how this would work out. But in order to know, we have to try.
I'll be releasing a small pilot episode on rinmarugames soon, and then we will see if this is going to work out or not.
What do you think about free online episodic otome games/visual novels like Ascension on rinmarugames?

2018-12-06 19:09:03 +0000 UTCI'm %90 sure there will be a backlash, but I really believe mobile apps are better for dress up games and interactive story games are better for desktops. I will definitely explain it to everyone and do my very best to make it as smooth a transition as possible. I will be sure to put most of my previous dress ups on the mobile app market first, so the loss will be minimal. =)

2018-12-06 19:05:36 +0000 UTCThe younger audience will probably be bothered by this change a lot. But the decision will possibly be a long-term one. Changing the audience of rinmarugames to young adult instead of pre-teen in time. It will (hopefully) be a smooth transition. Showing that mobile market is better for dress up games, and interactive story is better for desktops. =) All of this will take time and I'm pretty sure there will be lots of problems on the way. But every change is difficult at first, so at least I'll be ready. :P

I just hope there won't be a backlash like with the whole Ascension business, and that you'll still make enough profit to live of. And as pointed out earlier, putting a note on rinmarugames.com explaining things couldn't hurt. Eitherway, I can't wait to see what you'll come up with.

2018-12-06 16:15:03 +0000 UTCHi Rin! I feel like it's a great idea to adapt yourself to all these changes. Hopefully, the (younger?) audience on rinmaru games will accept and love this new style. I personnally love this idea, especially since I don't know any other platform with free episodic visual novels online! It's relatively new to me, and as a huge fan of your stories and visual novels, I'm very excited, but also pretty sad that flash is going to die at the same time. Oh well...maybe a poll on rinmaru games would be a good way to know what the audience thinks about the new direction? And a slight notice explaining why you took this decision? I'm a bit scared for this, because you mentionned that rinmaru games was your main source of income. I wouldn't want it to be any less successful. I hope everything goes well, and I'm pretty excited! :D
