The great ironic paradox is that men claim to fight for peace, yet their very violence ensures the cycle of war never ends. In the Viking worldview, a man’s worth was measured by his skill in battle and the glory of dying a warrior’s death, the ultimate ticket to Valhalla. Peace was just the pause between wars, and manhood was tied to how fiercely you could fight before you fell. Thorfinn’s journey shatters this ideal. Once the perfect Viking warrior, he comes to see that killing for honor or peace only leaves emptiness behind. His dream of Vinland (a place without war or slavery) is a direct rebellion against the cultural script that says manhood comes from violence. In doing so, he proves that true courage isn’t found in dying for glory, but in living without perpetuating the violence cycle at all.

Especially knowing Leif’s with Ketil & his sons making their way back to the farm, followed by Canute.😱 Plus, I agree that the soundtrack intensifies the emotions of the scenes, especially the piano. The piano helps the emotions feel fragile & intimate. It’s so beautiful to hear!
