In Japanese the "Onomatopoeia" they use is like a whole other side language to Japanese (it doesn't only reflect sound but also states of being and emotion). So when Perospero says "perori" it actually refers to the sound effect of "licking" in Japanese being "pero-pero". And they have onomatopoeia for so many things I'll share some progressively unusual onomatopoeia --- and the last one you've heard before in Spy Family almost every episode! zaa zaa - Sound of thunder pata pata - Sound of clothes flapping in wind saku saku - Sound of stepping on soft dirt or sand mushi mushi - Sensation of too much warmth (this is not the same mushi as in den-den mushi ..... but den-den is also another Japanese pun but not onomatopoeia) uru uru - State of wandering aimlessly jinwari jinwari - To be soaking e.g. in either of sweat, blood or tears etc. uki uki - State of cheery light heartedness deko boko - The existence of uneven ground shinwari shinwari - A state of quiet loneliness and solemness guutara guutara - State of lack of will power And finally Spy Family! waku waku - State of anticipated excitement If you don't remember where it's from, Anya always says whenever she is trembling in excitement about something, every episode. The thing about these onomatopoeia is they have their actual counterpart words. e.g. To be excited in Japanese is formally: koufun-suru, but given Anya's character this is too formal for her to say so she defaults to the more emotional state, and instead says: waku waku instead, reflecting a more child like innocence. She "feels" rather than "thinks". These are all well known in Japanese since Manga is very popular and just like you have "Bang" or "Kapow" in Western comics in Japanese you have them also, but it's almost to the level it can be a whole other language due to manga being so culturally ubiquitous, and Japanese being a much more emotionally charged language compared to English, which tends to be more constructionist and precise in delivery. I'll stop now lol. Anyways interesting stuff. I can write a PhD on this haha.
