Picard respects personal autonomy. One of his several good traits. "Brinkmanship is a dangerous game." Geordi is a likeable character. I wish Worf would have donated, but that's not him in his current state I guess. The Romulans killed his parents, turning him into an orphan. Horrible. More nuanced writing in S3. The camera work is better. Audio, sound, music better. Overall production improved. Enjoyed your reaction. You will pick up more on the Romulans and other species.
