Ended up giving the anime a pre-score at the end of E19. Can't wait to see how it finishes! Curious about whether it ends indefinitely or is there still manga content that needs to be animated. Hmmm...

In 18th episode you jumped to conclusions too early

Almost at 2000

I didnt mind this Christian spiel because I was viewing it more as a historical representation of how people thought in those times. i doubt the creators actually thought like this because it feels like a very primitive interpretation of Christian beliefs. i grew up Christian and never heard anything like this. so basically i understood that this was the characters' personal opinions and not the show trying to shove Christianity down my throat to believe in so didn't feel like the church at all for me. Just because a character is talking about religion in a show doesn't mean the creators need or want you to believe in the religion, the interesting thing is how they think about religion and i found it very interesting because I never heard this before even tho i don't believe in it. i learned to learn to lean back and just enjoy seeing other people's perspectives even if I think they're wrong. people don't have to be right for it to be interesting and writers know that. But if people don't like religion philosophy and stuff I understand how this can be a bore I guess lol. I'm kinda interested in religious philosophy and really interested in psychology so this episode was one of my favorites.

Yes, I agree!

Animaechan

hmmmm!! interesting

Copied and pasted: Yeah but that's exactly why I said that I felt like I was at church and I didn't enjoy that whole spiel because it was based off of the Christian concept of love which I don't agree with

Christian theology is based on the premise that God created all things and that all things are created equal, and so "true love" in a biblical sense refers to the same love that Jesus Christ showed in his life. Unbiased, humble, and overall "neighborly". For us as humans, it's hard for us to detach from familial/friendly bonds, but as the priest says it's a result of humans disobeying God (as told in the story of Adam and Eve and why it showed the apple) and so humans are naturally born with Original Sin. "Love" in this context means the unconditional, unbiased love for all things made by God, and so true love is ultimately detached from emotion. This love is different from romantic and even familial love, because no one is able to truly reach this state as a human except for Jesus Christ himself (who even had his faults as a human as well) and very few others in history (the saints etc). It's merely meant to be the gold standard of how to live our lives, an example for us to follow, but ultimately humans are emotional beings and we live our lives based on our emotions which make us vastly different than the other creatures of the Earth which means we have a responsibility to uphold as fellow creatures of God. This is all just from my understanding of Christian theology, this isn't my personal belief or me attacking anyone's beliefs, I'm merely trying to give context where possible

JR

In classical Christian theology there are 3 types of love, Eros, which is the erotic love, Phileo, which is the love of common man to all of humanity, and then there is Agape, which is the love Christian theology associates with Jesus Christ. It's considered unconditional and self sacrificing. The priest was referring solely to Agape in that conversation. He would have been well aware of the differences and would know that the Vikings would not have been exposed to anything more than the first two words. That's why he sounds weird, because you can't really convey the details of Christian theology developed over a thousand years in an anime.

Soon you will learn more about ''Shogi'' in a different anime :)

I’m still pretty pissed that they changed that intimidation scene from the manga so much. This is an amazing adaptation overall, but I really wish they adapted that scene better, it looks way more badass and demonic in the manga.

Azazelop

Yeah I think that was my biggest issue with the priest’s interpretation. He was talking about it from a Christian POV as if God’s love and A Christian’s definition of love is the only love that exists/counts. That annoys the shit out of my I’m sorry 😹😹 but That’s why I’m so glad Canute “listened” to him but also then didn’t listen to him 🤔 if that makes sense. I can’t wait to see what he does from here. I love when people “take life into their own hands” instead of lamenting in cynicism and acting like that’s any closer to “God” than the average human being... hmmm I am sure the discussion can go much further but I’ll try to watch the SOS brothers’ video first

Animaechan

These were some of the best episodes of the series. Episode 18 is such a fun episode to see reactions to. One of my favourite reactions to it was from the SoS bros. They had a long discussion about the “love” conversation and Canute’s mentality. I doubt you have time to actually watch it, but it’s a great discussion. They interpreted the scene in more of a philosophical sense than a religious one. Because the “love” that the priest was talking about isn’t the same type of “love” that they teach in Christianity. The reason that the priest believes that death is love is because he believes that love should be unconditional and unbiased. He believes that everything contains “perfect love” until it has the free will to discriminate with that love, then it becomes “imperfect love”. That’s also why the priest was so moved by the story of Thors, he’s the closest thing to “perfect love” that he has heard of. Even though I disagree with this line of thinking, I do find it very interesting, especially coming from a priest. It’s such a great conversation that can open up so many different interpretations and opinions. I’m also atheist and don’t really like religion, but I find philosophy like the stuff in this episode so interesting.

Azazelop

I just don’t think saying X is not love unless you love ALL is BS. So unless you’re perfect you can’t love? Okay sure 😹 nah I’m not a fan of cynical old fools like him. Love Canutes take on it tho and I’m intrigued in what he’s going to do from here on

If your wondering why Thorfinn could knock Thorkell down after a Kick to his Chin, Its most likely that Thors punshed him so hard ( despite the Fact that he was holding back) that he got After Effects from it. So if you smack him in his Face hard enough, it rattles his Brain so hard that he lose his Balance most likely and falls down. Also, if you wondering what happend to Torgrim ( the blond Guy who lead the " Rebelion" and later on broke down after Thorkell gave him his Axe) : Thorkell also possesses a intimidating aura, as Torgrim's mental state broke when having to face against Thorkell. While Torgrim survived due to Thorkell not killing him, he succumbed to amnesia afterwards and his mental state reverted back to that of a child.

Mathias

I'm not saying that I agree with his outlook, but what I believe that the priest was trying to say is that if you are unable to love everyone equally, then it isn't true love.

I rewatch all the stream earlier this morning and it was hilarious!!I couldn't stop laughing most of the time and your reaction with vls was super funny 😂😂😂
