I saw that the manga is on Manga Plus - but only to subscribers. Is it worth a read (for more details) or does the anime get most things perfect? I probably won't read it anytime soon, but I just want to take not for future reference.

Yeah the wiki said (I think I read this out loud but I was rambling) that he was claiming something, but I guess I was just trying to say “this is impossible so what’s the point of the thought experiment ” 🤣 or maybe just like I don’t like some thought experiments because they have no meaning and are just proposed for the sake of talking and sounding smart. But I’m sure in the end they all serve a purpose even if only to get people thinking and talking (or practising how to debate philosophy. But for me personally something like this thought experiment is best used for entertainment haha like how this anime uses it.

2024-05-06 19:51:07 +0000 UTChttps://tenbyignite.wordpress.com/2020/07/10/the-swampman-philosophy/ Based on what I read here, it seems to me that Donald Davidson wasn't really trying to prove anything with his Swampman thought experiment, it was more to raise the question of "If I were to die, and next to me a completely new being that looks and behaves exactly like me were to show up, would you consider this me? Would you consider this to be a human being?" Donald then argues that for him that being would not be the same as him, because even if it would perfectly act as him, it would lack all his experiences that made him what he is. That's what I got from it, but I could be wrong, either way, like you said, it doesn't really have a practical use. Sorry for the long comment, great reaction as usual, sad that there are only 2 more weeks of this
