Chapter 155

Kanae lifted Suvee onto her shoulders as Highgreen's walls, inscribed with enchanted runes to maintain a magical barrier, came into view in the distance. The youngest daughter between all of her children bounced excitedly, waving both hands at the guards that stood vigil on the ramparts. One of them gestured to someone on the ground behind the wall. A second later, the gate barrier came down and the portcullis came up.

"Begin setting up camp around the other side of the city!" Lilith bellowed to the officers of their army from the sky.

The main force broke from the road, leaving Kanae and a few carriages to continue into the city on their own. However, as they got closer to the gate, Edina paused and steered her undead horde away.

"Edina?" Kanae called out to her friend.

"City probably won't appreciate undeads strolling in. I'll take 'em around and meet you guys inside!" Edina hollered back.

As Kanae watched Edina leave, Pan tugged on her cloak.

"Can I go with Auntie?" Pan asked.

"One of her death knights almost attacked you. Aren't you afraid?"

The girl shook her head.

"Auntie Edina is better than that. I'm sure it was an accident! Besides, I want to make sure she's okay," Pan said.

"Alright." Kanae reluctantly set aside her worries and kissed Pan on the side of the head. "Make sure she drops into the city. If anything happens, go to Lilith."

"Okay!" Pan leaped off the carriage and flew after the army.

When they crossed the gates, the barrier rose and the portcullis shut behind them. Highgreen at last. The predominantly dark elven settlement, for how close they were to the demon domains, was a cultural wonder of artistic and architectural design.

The constant threat of demons had led to something of a renaissance here. Their shunning of stone and metal as construction material gave rise to artisan woodworkers and carpenters. Every home and building possessed its own unique ornate engravings in the very walls like a painter's canvas.

A river that wasn't here before dissected Highgreen into three parts. It was a massive undertaking several years back to provide the city a source of water in the event of a demon siege. The Hunter's Ward on the northeastern section served Highgreen's army and adventurer's hall. Adjacent to it on the western bloc was the Moonlit Avenue, a university city within a city that might one day rival Aidenhall for the magically-inclined. The third and largest, which Kanae, her daughters, and her companions had entered was Grellglen, named after Grell, now the Margrave of Highgreen.

As they approached the margrave's manor, a number of finely-dressed guards emerged to frame a path down the courtyard. Two dark elven men waited at the front to welcome them.

"Dad! Grandpa!" Suvee shouted happily.

Their wagons lurched to a stop, and Kanae carried Suvee down to let her run to them. She tackled Noah first, who knelt down to hug her. After their reunion, Suvee extended her arms to Grell, demanding to be picked up. Unable to resist his adorable granddaughter, the dark elven margrave's rough exterior melted. He lifted Suvee high off the ground and above his head.

"It's good to see you again, Suvee!" Grell erupted into jovial laughter. "Did you miss grandpa? I prepared a gift for when you came back. Do you want to see it? Bring forth the yearling!"

A stablehand came around the manor, pulling on the reins of a majestic foal with an almost glimmering brunette coat.

"For me?" Suvee gasped.

"That's right. We have an open field for you to ride her around in behind the manor." Grell placed his granddaughter onto the saddle.

Suvee was immediately smitten, stroking the braying foal. Kanae noticed right away the sad look on Kanade's usually unreadable demeanor. A little bit of envy, maybe?

However, Kanae's youngest lowered a hand to Kanade, who glanced back up in surprise.

"Let's ride together! We'll be heroes together like our moms!" Suvee exclaimed.

"The yearling may be young, but it is a thoroughbred Vantaean. A strong breed." Grell nodded to Kanade.

With Arenade's help, Kanade climbed onto the back and clung tightly to Suvee from behind. The stablehand led them around with Mikki and Daya, hand in hand, following them to the field. It was only seeing them run off that Kanae noticed Teana, Revah, and Noah missing. They must have snuck off into the city at some point…

"So, you're the Knight of Amethyst now? Is that supposed to be important?" Noah tugged down his scarf and grinned.

"Only to some people. Miss me?" Kanae embraced her husband Noah, who, unlike his more regally-dressed father, donned hunting attire suited to the cold climate.

"Queen Kanae, Queen-regent Arenade. Welcome to Highgreen." Grell straightened his back, the tough exterior returning in full force with Suvee gone.

"I keep telling you everytime I visit… It's weird to be called 'queen' by my father-in-law." Kanae sighed.

"If you get tired of being called queen, I don't mind having the regent part of my title dropped." Arenade nudged Kanae in the ribs.

"Come. Let us exchange words inside where it's warm," the margrave insisted.

They were led into the manor to a chamber furnished with a round table. Foods and drinks of all kinds had already been set out. The hearth must have been going for a while, since the room was toasty enough for everyone to shed their cloaks and jackets. Noah tried not to stare too much at Kanae in her Matron's Regalia.

"Have demons been giving Highgreen any trouble?" Kanae asked as she took a seat between Arenade and Esta.

"Fortunately not yet. They are, however, beginning to amass at the borders again led by none other than Lady and Minestra. Some of my guards couldn't help but notice several demons among your ranks. Is this true?" Grell raised a suspicious brow.

"Incubus. I'm keeping them around in case of enemy succubi like the ones that attacked Talahurah," she explained.

Grell and Noah exchanged tense glances.

"We read your report not too long ago. Are they something we should be worried about?" Noah chimed in worriedly.

"They sure as three hells are. Imagine Kanae, but there's more and want nothing less than to turn us into cattle! You know how exhausting it is taking care of her appetite?" Arenade complained aloud while stuffing herself with food and wine.

Kanae gave her the stink eye. She wanted to give it to them easy, but at least that drove home the severity of the situation.

"Don't worry. I have the incubi on a short leash. In the meantime, we'll figure out a way to drive the demons away from the borders again. Until then… you're going to want to keep this on hand." Kanae pulled out a couple of anti-succubus magic potions for the two of them.

While Grell drank one and pocketed the rest, Noah stuffed his three away for later instead.

"Thank you, Kanae." Grell rose from his seat to bow graciously. "Every day I'm reminded of the blessings this alliance has become. Which brings me to another concern that is more of an immediate threat to Highgreen. A few loggers have gone missing in the Hollow Glade. A group of adventurers led by a man named Talis went to find them, but they haven't reported back to the hall in days. Because of this, I've forbidden travel there for the time being. I know I shouldn't ask this of the Commonwealth's queen, but would you lend your strength to Highgreen and investigate this?"

"Talis? Was he accompanied by three elven women?" Kanae asked.

"Yes. I believe they mentioned something about having come from Ehmvier," he said thoughtfully.

The missing loggers and Talis' party might be the world of succubi. This was worth checking out.

"A few of us and I will go find them," Kanae assured the margrave.

"Thank you, Queen Kanae." Grell bowed again.

At the end of the meeting, servants showed them to each of their rooms. Noah took the guiding Kanae and Arenade through the manor.

"You know, Suvee wouldn't stop asking to come to Highgreen. Too bad your old man's horse cut your reunion short," Arenade joked.

"Oh, it's fine. We'll have plenty of time to catch up later. I'm just happy to see her again. This past year and a half has been so much work. Building the defenses, ensuring all your magic crystals didn't go to waste, and training footsoldiers alongside my father… whew!" Noah sighed.

Kanae hooked an elbow around Noah and Arenade's arms. "Well, why don't you let me and Arenade knock some stress off you right now?"

"A-As great as that sounds, I still have a lot of work to do as the warden of the Hunter's Ward. Maybe later tonight," he said, inciting from Kanae a disappointed pout.

After showing them to their decadent room, Noah turned to leave.

"Before you go, is Gretchen around?" Kanae asked.

"Yeah… I'll make sure to send her up," Noah promised after a moment of hesitation.

As soon as the heir to Highgreen was gone, Kanae quietly shut the door behind them and walked to the middle of the room.

"What do you think?" Arenade took a seat at the foot of the bed, crossing one leg over the other. "They raise any red flags? I thought Noah not wanting to bang was weird. He even resisted my glorious high elven form! You can't even resist me!" she exclaimed and grabbed a handful of her chest.

"Alright, calm down. Noah was never really big into sex to begin with. What stuck out the most was he didn't drink a potion immediately like his dad, but you can just as easily chock it up to him saving them for later," Kanae reasoned.

It was tough. A succubus could have easily already infiltrated the city. Their first move would undoubtedly be to target whoever was important.

Arenade was in the middle of rearranging the room because it wasn't feng shui enough when someone knocked on their door. Kanae opened it to find a disheveled Gretchen Redbaron, still dressed in her lingerie harness and pussy dripping with fresh cum. She smelled like a stable. It seemed in the time Kanae hadn't seen her, the enslaved thrall had gotten her right ass cheek branded with a horseshoe and nipples pierced with rings.

The once proud Archbishop of Aidenhall had been thoroughly reduced to being sexual relief fodder.

"Ugh… You're not letting Redbaron in here, are you?" Arenade pinched her nose.

"Of course, I am." Kanae fixed Lust to Gretchen's collar and pulled her inside. "Now, sit."

Gretchen did as ordered, sitting down on her knees and gazing up at Kanae for the next order.

"Good, sex slave. Next, pleasure your master while reporting your sexual escapades," she ordered, taking a seat on the bed and spreading her legs open.

Without hesitating, Gretchen performed cunnilingus between Kanae's legs. She had been getting better. Her tongue worked skillfully to bring Kanae close to climax.

"Lately," Gretchen began after a breath, "I've taken residence at the Hunter's Ward stables, sleeping beside the resident beasts."

"Mmmm~ How many times have you been fucked there?" Kanae asked.

"My total sexual encounters is 531, mainly with the stable beasts. Lately, a certain languisteed stallion named Doran has taken a liking to me. He fucks me at least three times a day. The stablehands believe Doran claimed me as his mate and intends to impregnate me. They have begun referring to him as my husband," she explained in detail.

"Well? Would you like to wed the languisteed?"

"Not unless you want me to. Although I've experienced ecstasy such that merely seeing Doran makes me unimaginably wet, I prefer to be yours and yours alone." Gretchen kissed Kanae's clit affectionately, the intensity of which paired with those sweet words brought her to climax.

"W-Would you look at the time?" Arenade stared down at her imaginary wrist watch. "I think I'll take a stroll around Highgreen and rearrange some furniture later!"

"Gretchen, as a high elf and priest, do you have any skills or spells in your arsenal that can help us flush out a succubus in hiding?" Kanae asked, putting a stop to Arenade in her tracks with a hand on the doorknob.

"Hey, how come you asked her for help and not me? I can be useful!" She stormed up to Kanae in a huff.

Kanae tried her best not to smirk. It was just so easy when it came to Arenade.

"I just thought you were going to take a leisurely walk, so I didn't want to take up your precious time." Kanae turned the other cheek.

"I believe I have just the thing." Gretchen nodded. "The combination of my race and class affords me a unique skill called—"

"MAGIC SIGHT! IT'S MAGIC SIGHT!" Arenade answered before Gretchen could finish and collapsed to all fours from straining herself.

"Okay… What's Magic Sight?" she asked.

Gretchen glanced over her shoulder, expecting Arenade to answer. Unfortunately, she was out of breath from the outburst and panting heavily.

"Magic Sight allows the likes of myself and Arenade to see magic on someone as a color," Gretchen said.

"Oh, I get it! If there was a succubus in Highgreen, then she'd have to be disguised with something like my Human Form skill. How do you distinguish between something like that and just normal magic? A lot of people like us have magical equipment," Kanae wondered aloud.

"But there… wouldn't be many… We can also… watch from the sky," Arenade explained, hand clutching her chest.

Once Gretchen got dressed for what might have been months since, Arenade begrudgingly went with her to scout the city for a succubus. Hopefully, they returned later with some clues.

For now, there was another angle to look at.

Kanae emerged from the room to Esta waiting for her beside the door.

"I've settled into my room and returned as you've asked. Shall we be off?" Esta asked.

"Sure. Let's find and bring Eliza just in case we need an escape first," Kanae suggested.

They found the sorceress outside, walking at a brisk pace across the courtyard. She seemed to be in a hurry, so the two hurried to catch up.

"Eliza!" Kanae shouted.

"Kanae, Estaline! I'm just on my way to the Moonlit Avenue. I hear their libraries possess tomes of knowledge dating back centuries! Highgreen has such a deeply rich history there may even be books from a millennium ago. Would you two care to join me?" Eliza asked.

"We regret to inform you that we're headed for the Hollow Glades and were about to ask you to join us," Esta said flatly.

The look on Eliza's face went from excitement to apathy.

"For the missing loggers and adventuring party? That sounds so incredibly boring, but fine. It better be more interesting than books." Eliza sighed.
