2018-10-30 08:17:02 +0000 UTCJust to add to context as well, as I'm pretty sure you're not going to go back and do a full 26 season run of the old stuff... The 3rd Doctor was stranded on Earth with a broken TARDIS for the best part of two seasons - and ended up working with UNIT on and off for four seasons in the 1970s, which is why he is referred to as ex-staff of theirs. I have never liked this episode much, but watching it back with you tonight I actually really enjoyed it. Basically I think I just enjoy any episode featuring Donna (no bias at all... :D )

2018-10-30 07:37:41 +0000 UTCAs per usual with Classic Who stuff you're not missing anything by not knowing, but yes, the Sontarans and UNIT were both established things in the original show. UNIT has come up at least once or twice in the new show before this too- the Doctor hacked in their database or something wayyy back in the first Slitheen two-parter.
