I remember watching this episode for the first time. It was definitely one of my favorites at the time and is still a top tier episode for me today. It’s one that makes Donna my favorite companion

It’s not discussed but makes for plenty of subtext to the season. Hints at the consequences to traveling with the doctor or even what it must be like as the doctor. It’s not as wonderful as they portray it. Part of the reason I love season 4, lots of things to discuss.

I think it’s time to talk about the psychological torture Donna has gone through on doctor who. First we have the person Donna loves and is about to marry, finding out he poisoned her and betrayed her for a spider, that alone would mess people up. then we jump to Pompeii and Donna take part in the death of thousands of people to save the earth and seeing everyone about to die and only being able to save 1 family. Then we jump to the ood planet where Donna sees the human race using slaves and hears telepathically the sound of slavery and then sees a man turned into a ood, that’s something that’s gonna stick with you forever. Then we have all of London in smoke with everyone she knows chocking to death slowly as well as being forced to risk her life on an alien ship. Then in the next episode Donna sees someone shot and die, on the grand scheme of things doesn’t sound bad but seeing someone die in front of you leaves an impact. With the unicorn and the wasp things were more easy, maybe a giant wasp might give a few nightmares but nothing too bad unless Donna has a phobia Now we have the library, seeing a skeleton with a voice and hearing what’s left of a person she talked to before slowly deteriorate will definitely cause harm, after that things were more calm as everything else was essentially a bad dream, but I’d imagine losing the children might be a little scaring. Then we have midnight where Donna finally gets an episode off to relax and attempt to process all the trauma from the season so far, just in time for her to experience and alternative timeline where everyone she ever knew was destroyed in a nuclear fireball and lived in a world without hope and was tasked to being the one person to save it (kinda like Martha) as well as seeing the stars vanish and people being taken to camps, however it’s not clear how much of this alternative time line Donna remembers but she would at least remember dying and rose saying bad wolf

Should just mention some things, the reason why season 3 finale didn’t show up was because the master only escaped the end of the universe because the doctor showed up, dead doctor means no master. Also I’m sure you understood it at the end, but if you didn’t the world Donna was in wasn’t rose’s universe, that was a different one, I think it’s less and alternative universe and more a alternative timeline but I suppose in some ways those are the same thing.

I feel Midnight often gets a better response than Turn Left, as the Donna lite episode compared with the Doctor lite episode, but for me the sheer scope and scale of Turn Left is immense - and as you alluded to, Catherine Tate's performance is one of her best... she still has better to come in my opinion. Donna's journey is just incredible. As so many people have said, Season 4 from Episode 8-13 are a run of 6 of the very best episodes the show has ever put together.

The Rose Tyler : Earth Defence spin off was to go ahead till Russel (the head writer of who at the time) decided it would ruin her exit impact so cancelled the idea. Instead the Sarah Jane adventure was created

This is an excellent episode setting up an excellent season finale, can't wait to see your reaction. Your reaction to this episode was so enjoyable, especially at the entrance of Rose - I thought you were going to miss it because of your teabag! So looking forward to your next two reactions! To those of us who have seen the episodes before: I don't know if anyone else feels like this, but I get the feeling that I'm seeing the episode for the first time, just by seeing it through someone else's eyes (or, reactions!) Just as the Doctor said in The Christmas Invasion: "It's brand new to me. All those planets, and creatures and horizons. I haven't seem them yet! Not with these eyes. And it is going to be fantastic."

Fun Fact: The BBC considered a 3rd spin-off show, The Rose Tyler Adventures, to coincide with the end of this season. But they decided it was too many spin offs to juggle all at once. Amazing how quick we get to “labor camps”. Super depressing episode. Donna’s mom needs a smack. Rose has matured quite a lot. The beetle feeds off time in a similar way to the weeping angels.

Please watch 4x12 and 4x13 and release them the same time so we don’t have to wait for the other half. Nothing more of a hype killer then waiting up to a week to finish something. Great video dude!

Glad you thought the two words would be "Rose Tyler" too, that was what I thought when I first watched it too. Think it makes the Bad Wolf reveal even more awesome! As for why the Master doesn't show up, it's because The Doctor never goes to the End of the Universe to meet him.
