From the context of his other sentences it seems clear. RTD did emotions better. Moffatt does other things better. But none of that matters when you manage to make a finale(and season) as good as this one.

It depends what you mean by cleverly written Joel, I think emotional coherency is a difficult skill to write and RTD managed this aspect much better.

The RTD era of Who isn't always as cleverly written as when Moffat takes over (obviously) but I don't think that always necessarily matters - not when the universe they create is so immersive with great characters you love, and bringing them all together in this finale to fight the Daleks, the biggest baddest recurring villains. People can shit on it but I love it personally.

Make sure you know there are four specials before the next season starts! And the last two are a two parter. I can't remember why now, but I think there was bit of a gap before season 5 started. Hehe - just mentioning in case you missed them and jumped straight into season 5 - that would be bit of a mind fuck!

This ending always makes me feel so empty 😂 can I say best scene in the series when the whole cast is piloting the TARDIS. You said this could serve as a great finale, well this basically was the swan song of head writer/showrunner Russel T Davies so it makes sense that it feels that way. The Donna scene at the end always gets me when a new reactor gets to that point! :'( It was great that you understood Donna's story arc too. I'm sad this season is over but some of the specials coming up are great too!

Donna being special has been hinted at since the very beginning of the season. It took her very little time to find the doctor. Her car is tardis blue. Out of the people she could have talked to about the car keys, she went for Rose. The sooth sayer in Pompeii noted she had something on her back. The ood chanted doctor Donna. It’s a lot better set up than Bad Wolf...

That last line of Wilfred gets me every fucking time

Love this episode too. If it were made today, it’s absolutely possible the show would pull an infinity war and have Davros win. Donna’s fate is the one that broke me 😭, they even broke tradition and just ended with the doctor alone, no cliffhanger. It’s not the end of the show, but it was going to be the end of Russell T Davies as showrunner, until they scheduled the 4 specials (the last one is a 2 parter, making 5), I guess to give Stephen Moffatt time to takeover and prepare for season 5

Really loved your reaction. I think you're really gonna love the specials, especially the last 3! Kinda sad that you've finished season 4 as it's my favourite season. Anyways season 5 is my second favourite soo.... I still want you to react to a classic story... I understand if you can't fit it in to your schedule. If you were to react to a classic story I'd recommend Genesis of the Daleks. It's basically the creation/origin story of the Daleks.

Couldn't entirely tell if you followed what was going on with Dalek Caan? I think you did but I'm happy to help if not. Also I would definitely be down to see some Classic Who reactions sometime.
