UNEDITED EXCLUSIVE: Doctor Who Special "The Waters of Mars" REACTION!

Sadly there aren't many uploads of Doctor Who Confidential. They ran for a few of Tennant and Matt's series. They showed how the episodes were made. Usually aired right after the episode. I like how, if you listen carefully, in those final ten minutes or so there are hints of the Eleventh Doctor's theme in the music. A little foreshadowing that you only pick up after watching The Eleventh Hour.

I think he convinced her of the reality of what he was saying when he was acting like a (fairly) normal, reasonable person. The way events were unfolding seemed to support what he was saying, and then he *demonstrates* that he does in fact have access to advanced alien technology. Not time travel specifically, but seriously advanced stuff. The Doctor had evidently gone off the deep end, and she sadly concluded in that moment that she had to do *something* extreme to try to stop him.

The only part I don't buy about this ep is that Adelaide would kill herself based on this apparent time traveller's ramblings. I feel like you'd have to know someone a lot more to commit suicide because of their prophecy, but hey

I dunno, the laser flash felt a little disarmingly cheesy, but then it is Who not a gritty sci-fi show

I’m excited for the next special and season 5. I loooooove 5.

I kind of like that the top layer of niceness slips from the 10th Doctor, and we see his uglier side. 'Little people'. The thing is, he is often kind of a dick in a similar way in other episodes, but is just a bit more charming about it.

I'm pretty sure I read that they were originally going to have Adelaide using a conventional firearm rather than an energy weapon, but that would have probably been a bit too much at the end...

For whatever it is worth, in the end he didn't break reality by his attempt to change time, but he did save some of the other crew and make sure the world understood what they had been saved from and who they had to thank. A nice bit of moral grayness- as fucked up as the Time Lord Victorious mindset was, he still achieved something good this episode as a result.

I love this episode, by far my favourite of the 5 specials. Probably Tennant's best overall performance in his time as the Doctor, and Lindsay Duncan does a beautifully subtle response to it, as Adelaide. The final scene between them is perfection. Glad you enjoyed it so much too! :) I'm excited to watch Season 5 onwards with you - I haven't rewatched that season since its original run, but I just know I'll enjoy it watching it alongside you!

I love that you catch on immediately to the Doctor’s ethical predicament: he couldn’t resist getting involved, he became paralyzed with indecision, and why it’s so critical he not travel time and space without a companion. That last part applies to all of us: maybe we all risk becoming monsters without friends by our side to give us perspective or stand up to us when we’re wrong. The Doctor went a little mad, but was he really that wrong? The Time Lords governed the rules of Time, but they’re all gone. There is only one Time Lord left in the entire universe. Doesn’t the Doctor have the authority now to make a decision like this? Sure, he made a little mistake, but maybe he will get better at it…with time?

One of the things I love about this episode is the unspoken fear we're seeing in the Doctor. In the Planet of the Dead, he gets this ominous warning. Now here, we can see it's clearly on his mind at the end. I've always seen this episode as a "If I can save her - this fixed point - then maybe I can save myself." That fear turns to defiance in the face of prophecy. Usually, the Doctor will rush into danger and death without a second thought, but having all this time to dwell on this foretold future is driving him crazy. Waiting for something bad is a lot worse than it happening suddenly and without time to dwell on it.

You are so right when you said the Doctor had f**ked up. He completely and totally lost his sh*t. So much so, he even renamed himself The Timelord Victorious. I always find that the most disturbing thing the Doctor has ever done. He finally tipped himself over the edge and become another ‘Master’ Luckily seeing the Ood snapped him out of it. “I’ve gone too far.” Donna was right when she said “I think you need someone to stop you.”. One of the greatest Doctor Who episodes and, as always, David Tennant is truly phenomenal.

This is probably one of my favourite Tennant episodes of all time. I know there's a lot of people who actually dislike how much of an asshole the Doctor is here but I think it's a perfect mental breakdown for the Doctor. After everything he's lost, friends, lovers, the whole time war and the loneliness of being the last time lord and the horror of having to just walk away from a situation that innocent people have to die that because time and the rules deeming it so. So of course he snaps and tries to save them and ultimately ends up losing himself in the process. It's seriously one of the most amazing pieces of acting from Tennant and he gets to highlight every single aspect of the Doctors personality. Great reaction dude, really took me back to the first time this episode aired and the absolute shock of it.

Oh my god, my nose gets stuffy and I get ready eyed every time I watch this episode. The writing, the acting &amp; the music was all just top notch. David Tennant KILLED it this episode, playing a man who has lost so much he was just fed up with the rules by that point. This is one of those rare moments where The Doctor almost seems villainous in a way but it makes complete sense why he does.
