2018-12-18 11:43:38 +0000 UTCPretty sure the entirety of part 1 is just an overly long setup for that pun.

2018-12-18 11:08:16 +0000 UTCIt also felt like Tennant and Simm spent 5 minutes running around an empty junkyard
2018-12-18 08:10:46 +0000 UTCI have mixed feelings about this episode. I normally love 'season finale' stories (and to all intents and purposes this is a season finale in style), but this one is a little over-blown for me in places and I find John Simm a little ridiculous. I think the cliffhanger was a great idea, but it feels like a good 5 minutes of him laughing maniacally at the camera to me. On the flip side, David Tennant is acting his heart out and Bernard Cribbin does a wonderful job too as Wilf. It's a delight to see Catherine Tate again even if it is just for a small amount of screen time.

2018-12-18 02:07:42 +0000 UTCWorth noting that the Doctor's more than usual hesitancy about this particular regeneration is retroactively justified on a couple of levels by some info that comes to light around Series 7, especially if you bring in the matter of the classic series Valeyard.

2018-12-17 23:07:41 +0000 UTCOf course if you have the same memories and the same moral compass then in many ways you are exactly the same person.

2018-12-17 23:06:48 +0000 UTCWhen the doctor regenerates he has the same memories, and the same moral compass, but other than that is a new person

2018-12-17 23:02:49 +0000 UTCOn the subject of regeneration, you are correct in that Time Lords do retain all their memories from their previous regenerations. It is the only thing (and the core goodness of course) that carries over from incarnation to incarnation. However, each incarnation has their own viewpoint on regenerating. And that's all I can say on that without spoilers.
2018-12-17 22:39:08 +0000 UTCThe Doctor's take on regeneration in this story is...controversial, to say the least. I count myself among those who strongly dislike its portrayal and its part of quite a few issues I have with this story. But there are still a lot of things I like as well!
2018-12-17 22:33:07 +0000 UTCThe scene between Wilf and the Doctor in the cafe is one of my favorites from the entire series. Great acting all around.

2018-12-17 21:29:37 +0000 UTCI like this episode but I agree the tone is all over the place and could have been tightened up. But I love seeing Donna again and the doctor describing regeneration as well as the best stupid clever joke “the master race”.
2018-12-17 20:30:27 +0000 UTCAw man this episode just gets better and better, it's a real grower for me.

2018-12-17 19:50:14 +0000 UTCJohn Simm really overacted in this episode

2018-12-17 19:48:09 +0000 UTCOne of my favourite cliff hangers of the show
2018-12-17 19:36:44 +0000 UTCYAAAAY, I was expecting this tomorrow then it popped up :D
