These are 2 of the most experimental, beautiful, exciting and scary episodes Moffs done. You totally nailed the scene where Amy is rescued feeling like Star Trek. I love that bit. I love these episodes. They're brilliant.

Wonder if the "love triangle" stuff was Moffat venting his frustrations about people who wanted a different resolution to the triangle or otherwise failed to understand that it was resolved back in Amy's Choice.

Some weird writing there on the 'Doctor/Amy/Rory' triangle. I mean, I now consider Amy and Rory one of the great fictional romances of our time, but it sure has its bumps. :D

I'm really enjoying the Moffat era much more on rewatch. I do think it sacrifices some of the affecting emotionality of the RTD series because it flits around so much. Moffat's dialogue is a lot more stylised and quippy as well but I'm getting used to it this time. Also, just caught the fact that The Doctor told Nixon to bug his own offices to record The Silence (hence the smoking gun in Watergate)

It is a little confusing though since it’s not exact reverse order, it jumps around.

No, the doctor just says “we haven’t” because he hasn’t gotten to that point, but River is at that point and forgot where he is in his timeline. (Timelines are confusing, even for River). He never says anything about doing it in the future

We don’t know for sure Jenny can regenerate. She didn’t when she died the first time.

I do love the silence tho. I was soooo freaking hooked on these villains of New Who. Like their concept is so well put together and an easy concept to grasp. I know a lot of people didn’t like that they gave credit to the Moon Landing to the Silence 😂😂 but it’s a TV show, get over it. But OMG that whole bit “you should kill us all on sight!” Gave me chills first time watching it. I think over time the more you go into season 6, 7, and so fourth, you’re going to look back at this two parter and see how iconic it is. Right now everything’s still fresh in ya memory lol. Oh, and about the River thing, they meet back to front, which is why she was surprised when he didn’t remember that they kissed before, because that means, that’s HER last time kissing him. Sure he probably will in the future, but for her that’s younger her, older her only kissed him once, or so that’s how he remembers. It’s pretty confusing and distracting 😂, but don’t worry, if you’re confused about it. We all were so confused about River even AFTER everything gets roughly explained. But you’ll grasp it more and more. Wonderful reaction btw. Probably the only reactor I check for updates everyday.

Also I liked that you mentioned the Doctors’s daughter. It never occurred to me my first time watching that that was a possibility. I think you’re the first to grab that concept out of all the reactions I’ve scene of this parter.

Dude the markings all over their body was soo huge. I remember in middle school kids were showing up with tally marks on their arms from permanent markers. The teacher would ask why we were doing that, and was pretty concerned lmao. But this two parter, regardless if anyone likes Smith, or New Who, or the season, was pretty a big two parter for New Who, especially at the time of its airing.

I love this 2 parter - the Silence are my all time favourite Doctor Who villains, and also the ones that scare me the most (far more than the angels!)

Other thing that is easily missed because it's such a damn throwaway line- the Doctor mentions he's seen a ship like the Silence's lair before but the last one was abandoned. This is meant to indicate that their lair is another one of the ships we saw in Season 5 in The Lodger- the one that was disguised as the upper floor of Craig's apartment. In other words, the people who were trying to make a bootleg time machine in that episode were the Silence, and judging by the fact that this one seems functional and is in the past, they seem to have succeeded.

Although really the proper way to consider a two-parter is as a whole and this is one that only gets stronger if you add part 1 into the mix.

I've been waiting for this episode for so damn long. Gotta disagree, I think part 2 is better between the orphanage sequence and how it makes use of ideas they've already set up like the glowing light and the marks to be pretty scary (it's kinda like the climax of Blink that way), and the legwork it does to tie in to Season 5's arc and set up for the rest of this season, and of course that insane cliffhanger. One of my all time faves for sure.

Just to be sure if you missed, but the orphanage dude was acting so weird because he'd been brainwashed by the Silence so much that he had lost literally years of his memory, and he'd almost certainly been writing the creepy messages himself to try and get himself (or perhaps the child?) to escape but then forgetting after the fact.

So Mikey LOL, the reason River was sad in the end was because that was the Doctor's first time kissing her which means that is her LAST TIME KISSING him. As they meet each other back to front Benjamin Button style. And by the way you're still a cutey even when confused.

I agree with your overall assessment, first episode is slightly better. And now you know why you shouldn’t be pregnant while time traveling... it may cause side effects, like timelordism and regenerationitis. 😉

I loved how big this episode was on social media when it aired - hundreds of people posting cosplay pics of themselves with the tally marks penned on their arms and faces. Also love how baddass River Song is.

Rivers reaction after she kisses the doctor is because anything that happens for the first time for him is the last time it will happen for her so she now knows she can never kiss the doctor again as he has told her she doesn’t do it in her personal future however it is implied that the Doctor will kiss her again in his own personal future as she says you act like we have never done that before
