Totally agree. Of the 12 episodes in series 8, I can tolerate eps 1, 2, 4, 5 and 8, and I still think that the resolution to ep12 was just plain wrong. This, again, is where the characters of Clara and Danny are ill served by the writing. I don't really care for series 9 either. Things get back on track for me in series 10

For me this episode is just utter nonsense and not in a good way (because a lot of Doctor Who episodes are and you love it for that). But for me this episode just doesn't ever feel right. But then I really didn't enjoy series 8 all that much tbh

Your last comments about the beheading are totally correct and unlike last week's intended demise for Rusty on screen this edit here changes the story & the Sheriff's character totally

Rewatching this, I actually find it quite charming. The banter is great, Robin is such a fun character, the new Doctor is coming into his own, and Clara, while looking GORGEOUS might I add, is fantastic. Also I really loved the soundtrack for this episode!

Its a beat hitter, it hits a specific beat of being a comedy episode. Each regeneration always has like specific beats to hit so we get to know the character. Here's their episode with the daleks, here's their super serious episodes, here's their comedy episode. Always during their first season. So this hits that specific quota. It's not really a memorable episode in terms of the content, but it's a necessary episode for character building and audience connection

I actually like this episode, it's light and fun, and I like Robin Hood annoying the Doctor. The Sheriff of Nottingham is kinda dull, as are the robots (and man that arrow in the spaceship thing) but I honestly just overlook them for the fun parts with Robin Hood/Doctor/Clara. Interesting fact, though, there is a removed scene where we would see that the Sheriff is a robot too, as he would be beheaded at one point (it was removed due to James Foley and Steven Sotloff being murdered/beheaded around that time by ISIS).
