The main character isn't a murderer. They're torturing an innocent woman. The murderer died when they wiped her memory for the first time. That's how memories work.

Found the whole concept terrifying, with all the people watching on their phones. Then the twist was astonishing. I still felt sorry for her even AFTER finding out what she did because the torture is horrific and we see it. The blood-thirsty park-goers are just as evil to me.

Nice commentary on people filming things on phone rather than helping and as awful as her crime was, people are doing exactly the same and paying money to watch and record her suffering. It's interesting to read all the interviews on how this episode came about. Definitely worth a look online for them.

2019-07-10 18:11:35 +0000 UTCNot sure if you clocked the main actress from the Dr Who episode Gridlock - where they kidnap Martha to get on that never ending highway under New New York. Funny you mentioned The Purge, when it 1st came out my 1st thought was Black Mirror - you will find a few concepts that were done on Black Mirror that seem familiar to later movies etc.

2019-07-10 13:30:47 +0000 UTCone of my all time favourite black mirror episodes! you are absolutely supposed to feel bad for her in the first half. and i think the main ethical question is - yes, she committed a horrible crime, but if the punishment is worse than the crime itself, does that mean that the justice system is just as bad as her? also, you could argue that, by erasing her memories, they are now punishing a completely different (and, dare i say, innocent) person than the woman who committed the original crime. everything she did and remembered is now wiped from her memory, and she can't regret what she did because she doesn't know that herself

2019-07-10 11:08:27 +0000 UTCThis episode was brutal. You are supposed to feel bad for her, because she doesn't even remember the crime she committed, and tormenting her over and over is just revenge, not justice. You probably won't remember her, but the main actress was also in Doctor Who, in the ep Gridlock. She was one half of the couple that take Martha onto the motorway.
