A lot of people seem to hate Nardole becoming a companion, but I loved it.

I didn't enjoy this one much when I first saw it. It does grow on me more each time. I think when you have waited a year for new Who then Christmas comes around and you are presented with this. I know I wanted something a little darker then a comic book parody. But I can enjoy it for what it is now the initial disappointment has long past. Capaldi does kill it as usual.

Daryl

This is true. I believe Moffat & Capaldi were introduced to this when the visited Mexico City in Doctor Who: The World Tour for the promotion of S8 as it's referenced in it.

At this point Steven Moffat had announced his intention to step down as showrunner & I see this episode as "What the hell, people love superheroes. So let's try & do it in Who" I really like this episode, visually good, sfx really not bad for Who & it's very funny. Moffat let's out his comedy bones with some great puns & play on words. Love your full of shit and "Be happy" ❤ An episode that can be done once & was good for a year away at Xmas before S10 in April four months later.

This was the beginning of me losing interest in the show, it feels like its ran out of steam. S10 didn't really do it for me, clever writing, just all feels a million miles away from the fun the show used to bring. Capaldi was the man but he got some average writing thrust upon him. I've only watched this special once when it aired and never since, same for most of S10.

Cooper Vision

It's weird, I remember thinking the same thing at the time but with the benefit of hindsight and rewatching series 9 it's now one of my favourites.

@WebSquirrel

It’s worth noting S9 was not well received when it aired and viewer ratings were down to half than ratings in S4 and had began declining since Matt Smith started. So Moffat took an extra year to better develop S10 in order to make it more polished. In my opinion it was worth it. Hype for S10 has begun 🙌

I didn't really like it when I first watched it.. cuz it kinda felt a bit americanized? (maybe I was so sick of superhero movies at that time lmao) kinda reminded me of the first two parter of s6. Considering s6 being my lowest fav season of who. But as a second view together with your reaction, i kinda appreciate it now! It really was just a cheesy fun episode! And holy shit! I can't believe you're already this far! I can't wait for you to dive into season 10! It's definitely one of my fav season! It's in my top 5 fav! 😁

Siti Dee

Funny, I was kinda meh about this episode when I thought back at it, but rewatching it now, I quite like it a lot!

Lilly M.

Great reaction. It was a fun episode, which was needed after season 9 and saying goodbye to River. Seasons 9 and 10 are tied as my favourite season of Who. I can't wait to see your reactions.

Stephen Ray

So this is what it would be like if Doctor Who crossed over with a CW show.

DinoX7

I think the two specials and the one year gap whether intentional or not helps reset the tone prior to series 10. I think the head splitting aliens is too graphic for Doctor Who. I'm just looking at it from a child's POV. Otherwise this Xmas special was enjoyable.

DinoX7

Ayy, your about to watch one of my favourite Who seasons of all time, hope you like it to G 🙌

On to season 10. Possibly my favourite. 🙂

Mr K

Doctor Mysterio is the show's title in mexico. Capaldi heard this and loved it

Amelia Liggins

It took guts to do a two parter a whole year apart

Amelia Liggins

Not my favourite one. It has Nardole, though. 🙂

Mr K

Yay:) It's up!

Dani C

This wasn't well received at the time (probably because we had a year with no new Who,and maybe expected more)... but I really liked it! It was a fun story, that didn't really require any knowledge of series continuity. I'm glad the 'Xmas theme' was toned down,as well. It's more of a short Dr Who movie than a seasonal story.

Ian Smith

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's the Doctor. What'd you think of this one? :)
