Honestly, I'm surprised you had such a strong reaction to this... it's just... meh for me. I think the first half is better than the second, but I think the costume/CGI for the woman is excellent in the second half. The 'twist' doesn't land for me at all because it doesn't really affect me if she is his daughter or his mother - both are kind of equal relations to me, so I was kinda like 'why does it matter which one she is'. Anyway... onwards and upwards...

I can see where they were aiming for in this episode - they just missed so badly - still, happy we got to see more of Bill and the Dr interacting, bless her trying to put down boundaries, this is the part of my life you are not in, we know how that never works, lol

I agree, although it doesn't make sense a lot of the time, there are parts I really like. The interactions with Bill and the Doctor are really good, with her trying to push him away a bit. The acting is great. I particularly love the sound effects in this episode; it is an asmr dreamscape (with all the creaking wood lol).

so going into this is was like 'i remember the first time this was on i wasn't impressed but this is pretty creepy.' and was a successful horror episode until like 2/3 in.' then i realiside why this isnt one of the ones from s10 that i rewatch. i like this season but to me theres 2 more episodes that don't work i know some dont like the .....extra long story in the middle... to be spoiler free. but i liked those episodes.

Haha! I didn't like it the first viewing too. I thought the other students characters were really annoying and the acting was just so so bad. But I really appreciate the creepy-campy vibes it gives. And it's somehow became my 'so bad it's good' fav now? Kinda? So yeah, I get it if some people liked it and some didn't.

Maybe in the minority then, but I love this episode. It's cool as a standalone spooky story, I like the dynamic between 12 and the students (especially Felicity in the small time they're together, it cracks me up that she's so eager for the Doctor not to leave), David Suchet does a great job, and I thought the reveal of what was going on worked. It also gave Bill a moment to be clever, when she realized that the landlord couldn't have been Eliza's father.

I actually forgot this episode even existed. And the story itself intrigued me, but the execution of it as a Doctor Who episode did not work. I think this might sound weird, but if this had shown up in the first or second season of Supernatural, it would have worked under that aesthetic and direction.

The great David Suchet best known for his role as Hercule Poirot. He would have made a great Master or even Doctor. I was excited when I learned about his casting. I was hoping he was a major villain. I maybe the odd one out in not entirely "knocking" this episode. While it didn't reach my full expectations it was fun on a certain level. The deaths were hilarious.

Some of these off episodes actually improve upon a second or third watch in the context of the whole show and an individual series. But retrospectively I'd put this one in the lower echelons of over all rankings. But hardly one of the worst by my personal estimations. I am interested in what you think would be resolved by slugging their captor in relation to deciphering what is actually happening and and how to stop the house from eating everyone. It's The Doctor not Jack Bauer after all. lol
