I was hoping, when she fell out of the Tardis, she was going to regenerate and erase into the 14th Doctor. I've watched everything up to this point, and I think the showrooner and the actor are not so great.

Amy Chlebus

I wish he didn't get his memories of Clara back. It feels like when superheroes never die and always are brought back to life. It was enough for Clara to continue "living" but to have no ramifications from being the Hybrid with Clara makes it a little pointless imo.

Ranulfo Allen

This comment really just begs the response: Grow up.

Mark Ward

I was rolling my eyes so hard I almost missed your “right over my head” moment at lethbridge-Stewart XD

The final episode of doctor who. It was a good run.

John

This wasn't my favorite finale because the story itself felt a bit weak, just to get him to remember. BUT! I had just watched Angel for the first time, and had just gotten through "Origin" which was all about whether losing memories and having them changed made you a different person and if having those awful memories returned made you who you were before, and what a double-edged sword it was. So watching this was like watching what can happen when you have good memories returned to you, and for me, personally, it was a huge deal. That is a theme I have struggled with because of the memory issues our organic brains give us. It's also the last hurrah for all of them, so it makes all the goodbyes more emotional to watch, a second time through.

Ah, it's been hell of a journey with you Michael! Capaldi was such an amazing doctor throughout and I still think he deserves better stories. And to me, without Capaldi's portrayal of 12th, it would've been not as great! Gosh, i miss him! As much as i love Moffat, and appreciated his run... i am (and still!) misses Murray Gold's music :'( I was more effected of him leaving! He was to me, the most important part of the series! I mean for new!who anyways! Sigh. So anyWHO Let's all give a warm welcome for the next doctor! And she's brilliant!

Siti Dee

Man, I just signed on for your Patreon yesterday, and I am not disappointed. I’ve never had the interest in joining a Patreon until I saw your video. You’re great man, and I love the way you’ve been seeing my favorite doctor.

Michael

Matt Smith’s Doctor was hugely inspired by The Second Doctor so I think you would like him

I have no name

Capaldi was meant to Regenerate in the previous episode, but when Moffat had learnt that the next Showrunner Chris Chibnall didn't want to have a Christmas Special, Moffat wrote this episode to make sure we had one. Not a spoiler but the next season is going to feel very strange and its a whole new show runner, musical composer and even the cinematography and pace changes. Be interesting to see what you think as it took me awhile to adjust. The whole 1st Doctor coming across slightly sexist thing got a bad response from a lot of classic Who fans, whats also strange is that literally the previous episodes the 12th Doctor established that time lords were the most progressive race in the universe so for the first doctor to be less progressive seemed contradictory. but funnily enough the line about the smacked bottom is an actual line from the 1st Doctors run.

Adam C Turek

It was a bit weird how they made 1 sexist because he was never like that, but I’m fine with it. I think this ep was also meant to be 12 having his faith and love restored for humanity after the bullshit he just went through. Interested on how you will feel on series 11 coz I am certainly not a fan. I love this ep though. I really love the scene where they have the glass woman say all the doctors cool names and him being the doctor of war and stuff.

Ward Junior

Bye bye 12, bye bye Moffat, bye bye Murray. To many good byes 😭

Matthew Case

The majority of people are being really positive about it..?

Robert Hill

I'm in-between. I liked it better than 2 (maybe 1 as well) and there were 2 or 3 episodes that I loved.

Stephen Ray

Man, the guy hasn't even started the next season and everyone's throwing in their opinions about how much it sucks. Let people go in with an open mind.

Laura_Ali

Oh and Failwhale34 thanks for a brilliant Who reaction filled year. I subbed to Patreon last Christmas to see S4 as I'd been made redundant and was down, your energy, and The Doctors, has been a proper boost and helped me find myself again, thanks man. 😁

Cooper Vision

Just to throw my thoughts into the ring regarding these comments about the characterisation of 1 in this episode. I think it's hilarious, done with clear love and affection and personally those moments are great comedic ones. I think Moff ended as he wrote, with a bang.

Cooper Vision

She is really good, I can understand people finding the tone change jarring but I do not understand saying she isn't the Doctor. By the end of her first episode she more than proves herself worthy of this role.

Cooper Vision

I just watched it, this is a great reaction, you appreciated it in a good way. I'm a fan of the next Doctor, I'm grateful for that. I hope you like her too. Tonally the show reinvents in a dramatically different way but at its core its still, mostly, Who. 👏

Cooper Vision

I can't believe you didn't know Jodie Whittaker was the next Doctor! It was such a big deal when it was announced. Lovely reaction, as always!

I think it's both the fact she's the wrong person to play the Doctor and bad scripts all around. Honestly, I'm looking forward to the day when she leaves.

Amy Chlebus

Capaldi suggested David Bradley as the First Doctor. Capaldi also wrote quite a bit of his final speech. Capaldi is my favorite, but Jodie Whittaker is amazing.

Stephen

Capaldi will always be my favourite :( loved your reaction

Also goodbye moffat

I recall your reaction to when the 9th Doctor became the 10th. It was priceless. You went into this not knowing anything. Now this was a good thing because you got to experience the same reaction 1960s audiences had when the original Doctor changed. It was so unexpected. So out of left field. It was such a huge gamble that worked brilliantly. Doctor Who could very well out live us all. You should watch The Invasion if you want to get to know the 2nd Doctor.

DinoX7

what a great sendoff for Capaldi

nicholas ch

I really wanted to give Jodie a chance going in but there were only maybe 2-3 moments I felt ok theres the doctor. I dunno if it was her acting trying to hard to be like past doctors or if it was the awful scripts she had to deal with but looking forward to seeing a younger perspective on the whole thing perhaps I am just too old and grumpy. Fingers cross for the coming season though

Magus

I'm so happy to see positivity for the 13th Doctor in the comments so far. People either love or hate season 11 with no inbetween. Not gonna lie, it's not my favourite, but there are some strong episodes in with the mix. Jodie's Doctor and the show as a whole feel VERY different from now on. If Season 11 feels uneven to you (which I think it might), just bear in mind that the trailer for season 12 just dropped in real time and it looks LIT. 12s song is over now, but the story never ends!

Robert Hill

Just wanted to say, I love Jodie as the 13 Doctor, I love her energy! And I really hope you will too! I'm really looking forward to your next reactions!

The reason that you heard so many of the old music and soundtracks is because all the music ever writing for DW since 2005 was writing by Murray Gold. This was his last episode composing music for DW so they added some of his favorites throughout the episode. And you may know that this is also Steven Moffats last DW episode it’s now being taken over by Chris Chibnall in series 11. Sooo this is really another end of an era for this whole show!!

Aaron Wilson

I wish the BBC would work with David Bradley and refilm all the lost 1st doctor episodes he plays the role so well

Magus

end of an era

@WebSquirrel

I still miss Capaldi, to this day. I don't like Whitaker as the Doctor. Not because she's a woman but because I feel she was the wrong choice.

Amy Chlebus

I think a thing missed in “The Doctor Falls” is just how influenced the Doctor was by Bill. When Bill says she doesn’t want to live if she couldn’t be herself, rubs off on him with him not wanting to change, and then in this episode, Bill bringing up how hard it is to give up being the Doctor influences his last words.

Minor correction, the Captain is the Brigadier's grandfather, and the great-grandfather of Kate Stewart.

Thor Melsted

Moffat's writing for the 1st Doctor in this story tends to be very divisive. He was basically 'going for the gag';but generally missing it by a mile, imo. Nonetheless, people tend to forget the lovely little speech he gives to 'Bill' about his reasons for leaving, and the fact that he'll never understand why the universe needs him. The Captain's story is delightful and beautifully resolved - how can Moffat miss the mark with one character, and yet hit it so precisely with another...in the very same story?? (As others have pointed out,The Captain is a direct descendant of The Brigadier - associate and pal of The Doctor from #2 through to #7 (or #8,if Big Finish is counted). If you react to more Classic Who he's bound to turn up sooner rather than later (he was in so much of it!) Great reaction;and,as always, great summing up at the end.

Ian Smith

Series 10 was Capaldi's best series IMO and I wish he would have had more seasons like this. I think really came into his own in this final series of his. I feel like The Doctor Falls would have been a more fitting and stronger regeneration story for Capaldi but this was still okay. Best parts for me is the Christmas truce scene and 12 saying goodbye to all of his companions. That goodbye moment really hit the feels I really wish we got another season with 12, Bill and Nardole because they were easily the best Tardis team of this era by far. I love them with all my heart. They were so good together and I really wanted more adventures with them. This is not only a farewell to the Moffat era but also to Murray Gold's music throughout these 10 seasons. And now a new era begins. Here we go again.

JY

If you fancy some Classic Who between starting the next season, I'd recommend The Three Doctors and The Five Doctors. Two handy guides to the classic era that often get referenced again and again.

Mr K

Totally disagree on what you said about the first Doctors characterisation. He was never sexist like that and CONTEXT does matter, which is why the smacked bottom line being said to his granddaughter is actually a hell of a lot more natural and fitting than threatening to smack some grown womans bottom who he doesn't even know. The first Doctor coming from the 60's BBC didn't matter cause in the actual show, he doesn't act like that at all. Moffat fucked up the 1st Doctors characterisation just to 'make a point'/joke/both

Ahhh, I'm so excited for what's next!! I love love LOVE Jodie as the Doctor, she is just AMAZING regardless of what anyone thinks about the actual season, good or bad. There was a cool announcement video of who was gonna be the next Doctor that dropped before this episode that isn't really react worthy in and of itself(bc you already know), but what you SHOULD watch on your own time, are reactions to it, they are quite lovely!

Lilly M.

You missed that Lethbridge-Stewart is Kate Stewart's family name. He's Kate's great grandfather, and the Brigadier's grandfather. Hence the salute.

PLEASE consider reacting to this amazing fan edit, celebrating the amazing 12th Doctor 'Be Kind' by TheGaroStudios https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBcZz4MPwCg&list=PLnwdKc0QwbkE3PiBUqZ13IFIAmq73sN3V&index=1

LAUGH HARD, RUN FAST, BE KIND

What I loved about this episode was the music as this is the last episode composed by Murray Gold who has written the music since series 1. It's also the final episode written by Steven Moffat so the mention of the world not being a fairytale is a nice wrap up to his almost fairy tale era of the show starting with the raggedy man.

Shows how great Capaldi can be with the right material- looking back his 1st season with Clara was a bit of a mess imo. Loved Bill as always.

Chris

Some people get really bent out of shape about the jokes about the First Doctor saying embarrassing things about women, but I would point out the following: 1. This is not new characterization of the First Doctor. In fact, almost all of those jokes are taken directly from 1983's the Five Doctors. So if that bothers you, take it up with Terrence Dicks. 2. The First Doctor came from the culture of the BBC in the 60s. This was a much more overtly sexist culture than today's, and it was acceptable to say things that have aged extremely poorly. That's what the joke is about. The most outrageous thing the First Doctor says in this episode, the 'smacked bottom' line, is taken directly from a classic episode (and no, the fact that he was speaking to his teenaged granddaughter at the time does NOT actually make it come across any better). The bit that whooshed over your head at the end is that the Captain in this episode is the father of Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart, better known as simply the Brigadier, a classic who companion and head of UNIT. This also make him the grandfather of Kate Stewart, current head of UNIT, who you are probably more familiar with. Anyway, I felt kind of mixed on this one when I first watched it, but I've grown to love it on rewatch. This marks the end for Steven Moffat as the showrunner; from this point forward, for better or worse, it's Chris Chibnall's show.

welcome to the dark years

Great reaction, not just an end to the fantastic Capaldi, but to Moffat and many other writers, to Murray Gold and his amazing music, to that TARDIS set and to so much more. Mark Gatiss was the soldier in this episode, he plays Sherlock's (Benedict Cumberbatchs') brother - Mycroft, has appeared in Who before (Lazarus) and wrote a few episodes. Also, the German soldier he was with is another Who writer, Toby Whithouse :) The son of the british soldier is 'The Brigadier' from Classic Who, i.e. Kate Stewart's (of UNIT) dad. Capaldi was great - be kind to the next season you're probably going to get some haters commenting, but I think there are some standout episodes you will hopefully appreciate :) Well done on making it this far man!

Sufyaan Kazi

Ok so I may have cried a little this episode. So now, like many I'm sure, I'm very intrigued to see your reactions to series 11

Daryl

I'd give anything to have had at least one more season of 12/Bill/Nardole - one wasn't enough.

Laura_Ali

Love this, but as stated above the portrayal of the First Doctor is off. It's more of a caricature of what modern audiences would think character from the 60's would be like. But such a great send off. And the classic control room. 😍 Recognise the hexagonal patterned wall from another great episode? 🙂 Oh, and the "windows are the wrong size" is a common nitpicky joke as the police box props have never been accurate to the actual police boxes. 🙂 Btw, never give alcohol to anyone in shock.

Mr K

i dont think you registered that the british army guy was played by Mark Gatiss who is a writer for the show and an incredible actor in his own right - of course you may have just thought it too obvious to mention aha

Alex Shore

I honestly feel like Moffat was trying to be satirical about this, and about the First Doctor's decade, but it came across as an attack on early DW. I also remember him and characters in his shows being called sexist over time, and he may have been chanelling that a little.

Laura_Ali

The First Doctor was never sexist he was completely out character in this

I have no name

i hope you watch torchwood once youre caught up

soledsnak

I've already posted this, but I've never claimed to be original. 😂 https://youtu.be/KrDcAzD6cWM

Mr K

Just when it looks like you were about to be caught up and only had one season left, Doctor Who goes and announces the next season airs the first week of January! Looks like you have two more to go instead. Actually judging by dates, you might catch up by the time of the Season 12 finale which is interesting, your first "live" Doctor Who episode being the finale

Calum

Eccleston: “Rose.. before I go, I want to say you were fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. And you know what? So was I” Tennant: “I don’t want to go” Smith: “I will always remember when the doctor was me” Capaldi: “Doctor- I let you go” Seems like each regeneration the doctor is slowly accepting change

Wow, here we are then. You'll be caught up whilst the new season is airing, brave new world. I like this episode, kinda feels like previous doctors were going to reappear but then it was nixed and we just got those weird bubbles. I cried a lot at this episode.

Cooper Vision

and that's a wrap folks. LOVE to hear your thoughts about this one and 12's run. Pumped for another season
