I honestly never realized how much time Cordelia and Angel spent together in these early episodes until you pointed it out... cool.

As for this Halloween episode there are so many well-defined characters: it’s not just Buffy’s story anymore. There’s Ripper, Ethan, Spike, Drusilla, Oz, not to mention Willow’s character growth and Cordy as Cordy while everyone else (including Giles) showed another aspect of their selves … I think Spike put it best: “Well, this is just…neat!”

2020-04-28 13:27:56 +0000 UTCThis episode is one of my favorite not top ten episodes of Buffy. The writing is brilliant. I love how the premise is hidden in Drusilla’s seemingly random ramblings. She has a premonition about the spell, that something will change how things appears. But also on the meta level, she knows what this episode will reveal about the characters. Dru “do you like my inside, the part you can’t see?” Spike “eyeball to entrails my sweet”. Buffy ‘s vulnerability, Xander’s bravery, Willow ‘s confidence and strength and Giles obscure past and ambiguity. The only character who is exactly who she appears to be is Cordelia and that’s why she doesn’t change, the spell doesn’t affect her. Of course the brilliant script gives us the prosaic logical explanation for that, which serves as clue to resolve the mystery, and at the same time a subtle character exploration. The only weak point is how Spike again manages to escape without a real justification, other that he must survive because we are not yet done with this character.

As you say, it's really campy and doesn't take itself too seriously but it also develops the characters and throws in some darker and more sinister plot twists as well (Giles). A big fave of mine and I still remember watching this one and loving it as a kid. Great reaction! You're really fun to watch dude.

I meant the comment about “him being a vampire” within the context of when I was watching the show prior to 1x7 where that’s the big reveal. I do know he’s a vampire. Tried clarifying it after I made the comment. Basically tried to reposition the comment to back before they revealed it, since Cordy was in the similar boat this one like ‘I had no idea he’d be a vampire’ after they revealed it haha. Hope that clears that up!

They've said it before, we've seen his vamp face before, not sure if they talked about what makes him unique yet, other than he's good, not sure if "xxxx" has been brought up yet (people who have seen it know what i'm talking about, don't want to spoil you incase it hasn't been mentioned yet) but we've had confirmation he's a Vampire before this episode. All the talk about him being from the 18th century and all also. It's been pretty obvious.

People turning into their Halloween costumes? I'm a writer, so I can definitely appreciate a good concept like this one. Also, Buffy's "Honey, I'm home" moment always gets me good.
