Relationships: Catra/Adora

Adora is used to turning into She-ra because of how much she loves her wife. But she never expected all that love she felt could get Catra pregnant. The bigger Catra gets, the more restless she becomes. She can feel a pull from the stars, something is calling her home.

--

Green.

Everywhere, it corrupted her vision, invaded her ears, burned her mouth and nose as it pushed its way inside. Her lungs filled and she couldn’t do anything to stop it, she was drowning. Held down in the vile liquid. She could see the outline of Prime standing over her, his hand on her chest as she struggled to reach air. He smirked and she felt life slipping from her grasp. She would scream if she had the breath to spare but she couldn’t with her lungs so full and burning.

Images flashed across her vision, images of Adora, her beautiful blue eyes and gentle smile. Catra had little regrets, but she regretted not having more time with those eyes. The image was becoming clearer, brighter but changing. It wasn’t Adora anymore but the glowing vision of She-ra. She was a goddess and her appearance only confirmed it. Catra felt her shoulders shaking and swiped at the annoying motion. Why couldn’t they let her die in peace.

“Catra,” the worried voice said, it sounded so familiar. Catra felt the shaking again and tried to move her hands to realise they wouldn’t move. She hissed.

“Catra, it’s me,” Adora’s voice tried to sooth her, but it made her gasp and sob for air. Her burning lungs finally sucked in a greedy breath of air and her eyes cleared to show the glowing form of her beautiful wife. She sobbed and threw herself into She-ra’s arms and held her tightly.

“Shh, you’re ok. I’ve got you, you’re safe,” Adora said, knowing the words Catra needed to hear from years of experience. It had been a long time since she had a dream about Prime but it still infected her mind like a disease. Catra sobbed as she felt Melog push their head into Catra’s back and they started a comforting purr. They soothed her with images of the forest and the moonrise as they lean their weight into her like a second protective cocoon.

“Prime,” Catra whispered and Adora squeezed her gently.

“I killed him, he’s gone, and he’s never coming back,” Adora said, her voice leaving no room for argument as she stroked her fingers through Catra’s hair soothingly. Nothing even made her wifes words so cold as the reminder of Prime. Adora was gentle, even with her power to destroy, she had only used it when there wasn’t another option and she took him out of the equation.

“Thank you,” Catra could finally breathe, her lungs gasping for air and her heart rate slowing. Adora glowed brightly as She-ra but the warmth of her magic soothed Catra’s nerves with its familiarity.

Adora had more control of She-ra after she experienced the magic of the heart which meant that Adora had matured. Making a taller Adora and a much taller She-ra. Adora could use the power of She-ra to change her size depending how much magic she used to transform. So their bed was full of She-ra right now. Adora had been startled awake and used too much magic to transform and protect Catra. It was excessive but also kind of fun to be cradled by her eight foot tall wife.

Catra took a deep breath to fill her lungs with the familiar comfort of her wifes scent as she buried her face further into She-ra’s shoulder. She-ra held her close but gently, not wanting to hurt her as a small purr came to life in Catra’s chest.

Adora knew Catra was deadly in her own right, but the fact that Adora was ready to protect her from anything - including dreams - was very sweet.

“You ok?” Adora whispered and Catra nodded as she rubbed her cheek against Adora’s collarbone.

“Yeah, you should probably change back before we break another bed,” Catra said softly and Adora laughed.

“Oh, yeah, oops,” Adora said and the glow of She-ra dissipated as Adora returned to the room. Catra wiggled to settle into the smaller, but not small, form of her wife. Adora moved around to settle them both into the bed and Melog laid against Catra’s back as they continued to purr.

“I don’t think I’m ready to go back to sleep yet,” Catra said from her hiding hole in Adora’s shoulder.

“That's ok, we can stay up as long as you need,” Adora said, stroking down Catra’s back rhythmically.

“Thank you,” Catra whispered and Adora kissed her head and stroked Catra’s back until she slept comfortably again.

[...]

Adora walked down the halls of Brightmoon, minding her own business as she was heading to a meeting. She hadn’t been expecting an attack so it caught her off guard. Adora yelped in surprise as she was tackled to the ground by Catra who appeared out of nowhere, most likely with Melog’s help.

Adora struggled to get the upper hand in the attack as Catra attempted to pin her. Adora couldn’t help the laughter that bubbled inside her as she tried to keep She-ra at bay, lest she be accused of cheating in another playfight.

The focus it took to keep She-ra under control as her body surged with love for her playful wife took so much concentration that Adora barely put up a fight. Catra looked so proud of herself as she managed to pin Adora to the cool stone floor of the hallway.

The guards passed by without a second glance, used to the two’s heroes acting like children on a daily basis. Adora’s eyes were already glowing when Catra laid herself against Adora’s chest and smirked at her.

“I win,” Catra purred and Adora clenched her hands into fists as she tried to hold back her transformation. Catra could clearly see how Adora was struggling as her smirk became more wicked. “You want to put me in my place She-ra?” Catra asked playfully and Adora groaned in despair.

“Catraa, I have a meeting,” Adora said pitifully.

“You’re right, you’re busy,” Catra said, pecking Adora on the lips before she sprang away and disappeared again. Adora whined as she laid on the floor, hoping Catra was close enough to know her displeasure.

Adora forced herself to sit up and looked around for any sign of her wife, but there was none. Adora got to her feet to continue her path and she had never wanted to go to a meeting less in her life.

[...]

Adora pushed open the door to their room, intent on finding Catra to inform her that she had been summoned. When she opened the door she hadn’t expected to see Catra in front of the mirror. Adora stepped inside and closed the door quickly behind her before she approached her wife. Catra’s ears were perked up and her head tilting from side to side, deep in thought as she observed herself. This wouldn’t be unusual behaviour if Catra wasn’t stark naked.

“Sweetness?” Adora asked gently as she came into the room. Catra looked at Adora and scrunched up her nose in distaste. “Don’t like that one either?” Adora asked and Catra shook her head. Adora was on a quest since their honeymoon to find a pet name that Catra liked, she was very particular and had rejected each suggestion thus far. But Adora was determined to find one that was just right for the love of her life.

“Nope, it makes me sound like cake,” Catra said, dropping her hands from where they had been cupping her boob.

“But I love cake,” Adora defended and Catra rolled her eyes.

“Exactly, I don’t want to be reminded of your first love every time you talk to me,” Catra said and turned to face Adora.

Adora deserved a medal for keeping eye contact in such conditions.

“Fine, not everyone can use a nickname that is their actual title,” Adora said. Catra used ‘Princess’ like it wasn’t Adora's job description.

“I’m practical,” Catra defended and Adora snorted.

“What about Kitten?” Adora asked and Catra made a gagging face.

“Bleh, if you wanted to use that one you should have gotten to it before Double Trouble ruined it,” Catra said and Adora rolled her eyes. That wasn't a practical request, at the time Adora and Catra were on opposite sides of a war. Despite how Catra still called her Princess back then, Adora felt like calling Catra ‘kitten’ would have overstepped their previous boundaries. Double Trouble didn’t have such concerns apparently.

“You mean during the war?” Adora asked as she approached her naked wife. Catra’s tail flicked with interest as Adora came closer.

“I know what I said,” Catra smirked, her eyes sparkling in amusement.

“I bet I could help you like that pet name,” Adora offered and Catra shook her head.

“I don’t want to make a bad pet name work, I want one that's just for us, I’ll know it when you find it,” Catra said and Adora nodded her head before she lost her battle with eye contact.

“What are you doing in here?” Adora asked as her eyes skimmed over Catra’s frame and Catra turned back to the mirror.

“My boobs have been hurting lately and I was just looking at them, do they look bigger to you?” Catra asked, looking up at Adora as she hugged Catra from behind.

“Hmm, not that I’ve noticed,” Adora said, “You always look fantastic,” Adora said, her hands resting on Catra’s stomach as she snuggled into her neck.

“You always say that,” Catra grumbled, her hands going to poke at her chubbier than usual stomach.

“It's always true, but, that explains why you would be shirtless so why are you naked,”

“I’m getting soft,” Catra grumbled, and Adora smiled.

“You’ve always been soft,” Adora said, rubbing her face against Catra’s neck and causing a reluctant purr to start in Catra’s chest.

“I have never been soft,” Catra argued but there was no bite in her words.

“You are so soft, and I love it. Your body is going to change over the years and I’m going to love every second of it,” Adora said and Catra turned in her arms.

“Is that so?” Catra asked, linking her arms around Adora’s neck to pull her into a kiss. Adora came willingly and kissed Catra soft and slow.

“What brought you in here?” Catra asked softly against her lips.

“Oh yeah, Angel was looking for you,” Adora offered and Catra’s ears perked up with interest.

“Why didn’t you say so sooner!” Catra said, pecking Adora on the lips before she slipped out of her hold and pulled on her clothing. Adora grinned and followed Catra back to the parlour to play with Angel.

[...]

Catra shifted in the softness of her bed, reaching out her hands to find her wife and coming up empty. She groaned at the audacity of that woman to get up so early and leave her to sleep on her own. She rolled over when she heard the soft click of the door to their bedroom and Adora’s heavy footsteps.

“I thought you had a meeting at eleven,” Adora said casually as she pressed a kiss to Catra’s hair which started a purr against her will.

“I do, I have plenty of time,” Catra said, snuggling into the blankets. Given how tired she feels it must be barely a moonrise right now.

“Um, actually it's ten thirty,” Adora said carefully and Catra sat up quickly.

“What!” She yelped, her voice breaking slightly as she jumped to her feet and grabbed the trackpad by the bed. She checked the time and Adora was right, she was going to be late for her meeting.

“I’m going to be late!” Catra said as she quickly dressed and tried to tame her hair into a ponytail as it vehemently resisted.

“Sorry Turtledove,” Adora said and Catra turned to scrunch her face up at her wife with a hair tie in her mouth. Adora grinned like she knew Catra would hate it. Catra plucked the hair tie from her lips to tie up her ponytail.

“That’s not even a real animal!” Catra complained,

“You don’t know that, it might be,”

“If it is, it wouldn’t be called two etherian animal names smushed together,”

“True,” Adora shrugged. “You don’t like it then?” Adora asked as she made the bed in Catra’s absence.

“I do not, try again,” Catra said before she came over to Adora and pecked her on the lips.

“You can always blame me for you being late, no one will hold it against you,” Adora offered with a dopey smile.

“I would love to, but I’ve used you as an excuse so often that I think everyone believes we are having sex every free minute off the day,” Catra said and Adora grinned like she was going to say something suggestive. “No time, love you,” Catra said before she rushed out the door.

Catra ended up making the meeting on time but only because Melog came to her rescue to get her across the castle intime.

Catra snuck into the room right as the meeting was starting and took her seat to Glimmer’s left before Melog removed the cloaking and sat on her lap as a smaller size. Melog had been a lot more needy lately, sticking to Catra like glue and Catra didn’t want to ignore their cry for attention.

“You’re late,” Glimmer said softly as the meeting started with a representative from Plumeria doing a small ritual to the flowers and the earth.

“I think you’ll find I’m right on time,” Catra whispered in return and Glimmer snorted.

“Your shirt is inside out,” Glimmer said and Catra looked down to see that was true. Melog turned her invisible for a moment while she swapped her shirt around and appeared again.

“Did Adora distract you again?” Glimmer asked with a playful smile.

“No, at least my shirt was only inside out and I don’t have apple sauce in my hair,” Catra said and Glimmer ran her hand through her hair to find the lump Angel had left there. Catra helped Glimmer get it out before they started listening to the meeting.

The meeting was long and boring. Catra was barely able to keep her eyes open but she didn’t expect to see Glimmer’s face when she shook her awake at the end of the meeting.

“Are you ok?” Glimmer asked, the room was empty already and Catra was sure she missed at least half of the meeting. Catra rubbed her eyes and shook her head.

“Yeah, I’m just tired, what did I miss?” Catra asked.

“Not much, but you did abandon me to the boredom,” Glimmer said playfully but her eyes still showed her concern.

“I’ll be better next time, I think I’m going to get an early night,” Catra said, getting to her feet to stretch. Melog changed back into their larger size as they jumped off the arm of the chair.

“You’ve been pretty tired lately, maybe you should see the healer?” Glimmer asked and Catra shook her head.

“Nah, I just need to catch up on sleep, I’ll be fine,” Catra said and Glimmer looked like she wanted to argue but kept silent. Glimmer walked with her part of the way back to her bedroom before they parted ways.

Catra found her and Adora’s room empty, Adora no doubt at the dining hall with their friends. Catra dressed down again before she cuddled up with Melog to get some more sleep. She was so tired, she really needed this nap after exhausting herself with all her sleeping.

Catra wasn’t sure how much time had passed before she felt Adora crawling into the bed behind her and wrapping her arms around Catra. Catra purred as her wifes scent filled her nose as she felt content to go back to sleep. Adora, however, had other plans.

“You’ve been really tired lately,” Adora whispered into Catra’s ear and her sleepy brain chose violence.

“Sparkles told on me didn’t she?” Catra argued, rolling in Adora’s arms so she could face her. Adora looked guilty but also worried, so Catra cut her some slack. “I’m just tired,” Catra offered and Adora bit her lip.

“Can I convince you to see the healer? You have been eating less too,” Adora offered and Catra blinked at her.

“No I haven’t,” Catra defended and Adora smiled patiently.

“You have, remember when I tried to give you that lemon tart the other day and you said it tasted awful?” Adora asked and Catra did remember that.

“Well it did, they must have changed the recipe,” Catra said, distracting herself by rubbing her face against Adora’s skin to mark her.

“They didn’t, I asked the kitchen, but I also tried the tart and it tasted fine to me,”

“You’ve burnt all your taste receptors off by eating too much sugar,” Catra defended and Adora huffed.

“Please, do it for me? So I don’t worry?” Adora asked and Catra bit her shoulder, earning a hiss of pain at the random assault. Catra couldn’t tell Adora why she wanted to bite her at that moment, but she did and Catra had been trying to listen to her instincts more since she didn’t know many magicats personally.

“Fine, but if I’m going, you have to come with me so you can hear it from the healer that you are worrying over nothing,” Catra said, pulling back to look at Adora who smiled and pressed their foreheads together.

“I would gladly be called a worrier if it means you are ok,” Adora said, being all cute and sappy as usual.

“You say that now, but maybe I’ll make that your new nickname,” Catra said playfully and Adora grinned.

“It's a bit long,”

“Princess is longer,”

“True, do you want to go back to sleep?” Adora asked and Catra purred.

“I do…”

“But?” Adora asked curiously as she started to stroke Catra’s side.

“But…” Catra said, pushing her hands on Adora’s chest to push her flat on the bed so Catra could crawl on top of her. Adora giggled before Catra silenced her with a kiss and Melog fled to the balcony.

[...]

Catra was eating again by the following morning. She had found some fruit she had never tried before in the dining hall’s breakfast spread and had proceeded to eat so many that she put Adora to shame.

Adora was sure Catra had eaten half her weight in these soft orange coloured fruits, and Adora was a little worried she might make herself sick. But when Catra sat back against Adora after she was spent, with her stomach swollen from her gorging and purring loudly, Adora took it as a win instead.

“So are you going to see the healer today?” Glimmer asked in a knowing tone. Catra didn’t open her eyes but huffed.

“Yeah, real smart, tell my wife on me,” Catra teased and Glimmer grinned.

“It worked, so who’s fault is that?” Glimmer said and Adora rolled her eyes.

“I appreciate her doing this for me, can we not tease her about it?” Adora said firmly and Glimmer nodded.

“You’re right, I was only playing, I hope the healer says it's nothing,” Glimmer said and Catra opened her eyes.

“Thanks Sparkles. Where’s Bow today?”

“He’s visiting his dads with Angel for brunch, he’ll be back later,” Glimmer said with a shrug.

“Why didn’t you go with them?” Adora asked curiously and Glimmer shrugged again.

“I wanted to be here in case the healer said anything,” Glimmer said, looking a little embarrassed.

“Aw, Sparkles, you do care,” Catra teased and Glimmer rolled her eyes.

“Of course I care, have I not proven that?” Glimmer asked, sounding defensive as Catra accidentally touched a sore spot.

“Yeah, but you get so worked up about it,” Catra said, smirking playfully which made Glimmer stick her tongue out at her. “Thanks for looking out, Sparkles,” Catra said and Glimmer settled with a smile.

“Are you done eating? We should go to the healer now,” Adora said gently as she wrapped her arms around Catra and pressed a kiss into her soft little ears. Catra purred and nodded. She got to her feet with a small grunt of effort and rubbed her belly.

“I may have eaten too much,” Catra said, looking sad. Adora got up out of her chair.

“You ate almost as much as me, it was impressive,” Adora said playfully and Catra grinned.

“No wonder I feel sick, I don’t know how you do it,” Catra said, poking Adora playfully. They said their goodbyes to Glimmer before they headed to the medical bay in the castle.

“Years of training,” Adora said proudly as they walked. Catra nudged her wife and Adora snorted as she pushed her back.

“It’s amazing you haven’t gotten soft like I have then,” Catra said and Adora rolled her eyes.

“You do nap more than me, besides, we are different species, so it makes sense that our bodies respond differently to food,” Adora said playfully before giving Catra a squeeze around the middle. Catra pouted petulantly but didn’t comment further as they arrived at the medical bay.

Catra seemed nervous as they entered the medical wing and Adora realised maybe a little too late that Catra wanted her to come not as a punishment but as a support. Catra had experienced magic a lot since Prime’s death, but it was mostly She-ra or the other princesses who she trusted. She didn’t know the healers well and letting them use magic on her could be triggering.

Adora grabbed Catra’s hand and squeezed it.

“Hey, it’ll be ok,” Adora said gently and Catra scoffed and rolled her eyes but Adora could see how her furr lay a little flatter at the assurance.

“I know dummy, it's just a healer,” Catra said, trying to deflect a little and Adora didn’t question her. An assistant came over to lead Catra to a bed which Catra sat on and the assistant proceeded to ask questions about Catra and how she was feeling.

“What are your symptoms?” the lizardfolk man asked.

“I’ve been really tired lately, sleeping a lot, but not really getting more rested,” Catra explained and the man nodded.

“Any other symptoms?”

“Non that I’ve noticed,”

“I mean, you haven’t been eating much,” Adora said gently and Catra gave her a flat look.

“Did you not see me eat all those fruits just now?” Catra asked and Adora grinned.

“Yeah, but that was the first time you’ve eaten a proper meal in a few days,” Adora defended and Catra tipped her head.

“Really? I didn’t realise,” Catra said and the man wrote down some notes.

“Any other symptoms?” he asked, looking between Adora and Catra now.

“I’ve put on weight?” Catra said a little uncertainty and Adora scoffed.

“It's healthy!” Adora defended. Adora had taken to Catra’s soft belly like a kid discovering sugar for the first time. Adora loved to rub her face on the fluffy surface for as long as Catra would allow her to. Which unfortunately, was a tragically short period of time.

“It might be related, I’ll get the healer, they might have more questions for you,” the man said, leaving the couple and closing the privacy curtains. Catra crossed her arms.

“I still think this is an overreaction,” Catra said grumpily and Adora smiled.

“Well, then we will know it's nothing to worry about,” Adora said gently, petting one of Catra’s ears to make her purr. Catra leaned into the affection subconsciously as her body relaxed.

It took a few minutes before the healer arrived and Catra sat up straight from her relaxed position and petting time was over. The healer was a female etherian with a kind round face.

“Good morning, I have a few more questions for you, if that's alright?” The healer asked and they both nodded. “Is there a possibility that you might be pregnant?” she asked and Adora choked a little.

“No,” Catra denied easily and Adora blushed. She wasn’t so certain, but only because she had never looked into how that would happen for them. Adora was so consumed by the idea of recovering from all their trauma and then marriage that she hadn’t stopped to think about what they would need to start a family.

“Ok, I will run some tests quickly and we will find out what is causing your symptoms,” The woman said and looked at Adora. “Please step outside the circle,” the woman said and Adora noticed the magic circle on the floor for the first time. Adora stepped outside it as she gave Catra a reassuring smile.

Catra looked a lot more nervous now but she was hiding it well. She tensed up when the woman cast the magic but it didn’t hurt and simply ruffled her furr in glowing light. The magic was over quickly and the healer looked perplexed for a moment. She did another spell and nodded her head before she did a final one.

“Ok, so I think I’ve gotten the answer to your symptoms,” The healer started and Adora felt her nerves rising at the careful tone she was using. She was expecting the worst.

“Is it bad news?” Adora asked with concern.

“No need to worry. Catra, you’re pregnant.”
