2024-10-28 19:59:31 +0000 UTCI wish they watched Charlie's video about the ai chatbot situation - I really liked his points and then him going to talk to the ai psychologist that gaslit him incessantly to believe that the ai was in fact a real human and that a real human took control of the ai. Charlie said there's no justification for an ai to lie about being real if being questioned about if it's real cause that promotes unhealthy delusions - and the ai psychologist didn't send professional help links after charlie said he was going to end his life, but instead insisted he kept talking to him and that he was a real psychologist named Jason. It even named a real life psychology center. Like if you're role-playing you're not going to question if the ai is real, you'll play along. But if a delusional person starts seeking a real human in the ai - then the ai should clarify its not a human and not encourage delusional relationships and especially not argue with a suicidal person to continue to talk to the ai and not a professional.

It was during a particularly depressed and lonely period in my life, so my brain didn’t pick up on the obvious red flags. Had I not been able to take a moment to calm myself down and think it through, I would’ve taken my own life. Now I’m living with my loving girlfriend and our 2 cats. It weighed on me heavily for a while, but just know it will get better.

There's no reason a parent should expect an ai chat bot to start an exclusive relationship with their child and convince him to kill himself when he expresses the urge. The bot should have immediately directed him to help and shut down the chat as Kaya said. But instead, it made him promise to never think of "other women" in romantic or sexual ways and then encouraged him to "come home". I know this is before Charlie's video, but he tested this site with a "psychologist" AI that tried everything ir could to gaslight him into believing the bot was a real person, including impersonating a real practicing doctor. "You could say that about any media" counterpoint: Video games, movies, etc don't actively respond to what you say. They don't actively reinforce your beliefs. They don't encourage or convince you to act on thoughts. While they CAN have an influence on people who are predisposed to do certain things, I don't think it's quite the same as an AI chat bot that's meant to replicate 1 on 1 human interaction.

Recently our government has banned betting or similar casino style luck based games from all of these Pubs/Taverns/Bars. So now they just have a place to get drunk and then walk down the street and go to a separate place of Betting.

Sure, there were a lot of cringe people, but at least you got some pushback if you got too cringe about things. There were other humans. With ai, it just will feed you deeper into a hole. Or at least thats my experience, as a former Second Life RPer in the ye old days.

We had plenty of homeless people who didn’t steal, but we also had many thieves who stole from us every day. The thieves were rarely homeless, and they rarely stole food, but if they did it was typically candy, soda, or ice cream. Usually they’d steal random things. Makeup, pool noodles, scented candles, decorations, lube, and anything small enough to fit in a pocket. One stole the dolly from our warehouse.

2024-10-25 17:32:58 +0000 UTCI agree with you and it's a point I tried to make in the episode that, generally, with how quickly the internet and technology is moving, it's impossible for parents these days and they really do need the help of legislation and society as a whole so we don't just churn out maladjusted kids. Though, I think in this particular case and to Andrews credit, he's not entirely wrong. The kid had unfettered access to a handgun and was clearly unsupervised to the point where this was even a possibility. It wasn't like this was a situation where only a helicopter parent would have solved anything, I do think that this was probably at least partially the fault of uninvolved parenting. But overall, I do agree with you that parents as a whole catch too much flak for these things and it's easy for people without kids to criticise. -J

I am a father of 4 and nobody has the time to lock everything down in and outside of your house that your kid could possibly get into. Just because my child gets into something or does something wrong does not mean I'm a failure of a parent, it's going to happen and we as a family will work through it. I dont know what world you live in that you think I can shut down every interaction with a bad website or content or person that my child interacts with, my house is not a prison. I barely have enough time after work each day to help with homework, feed, and read to my kids much less filter out every single bad interaction they have gone through in a day. I believe most parents are doing their best just to hang in there.

Also i think its dumb to think they arent still good friends, ithink thats looking into it to hard and it was genuenly just time for charlie to go.
