Behind the Scenes: Recovery 🙏

Hey folks! OKAY THIS WEEK:

I came back from Emerald City Comic Con 2019! It was FUN TO SEE ARTIST FRIENDS. (Artist alley at ECCC is set up so that everyone you know is a few tables away. It's GREAT.) I enjoy posting tons of Instagram stories while working conventions, including capturing this LIVE BABY JACK FROM THE Y3 KS. (I also shared this on Twitter.)

I actually touched down in Austin at 11:30PM on MONDAY  (@_@) and the got con crud (read: sick) on TUESDAY and had personal matters to attend to on WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY. So I haven't gotten as much work done since landing in Seattle. But I'm excited to share what all I got done this week.

From the header image. It's Jack and Bitty out in the reading room. Sometimes you want to sit out on the roof with your dude and lightly chirp each other while deflecting chirps. Bitty is so hard for me to draw, so I'm glad I could get his face angle? Also, I've been really in to giving Bitty more of a "brow" lately, which makes him appear even older.

And Answering Some Q's

Q: I’m curious if Ngozi has been reading Heroes in Crisis, since Booster Gold is featured so heavily?

A: I haven't been reading any mainstream comics (probably the closest thing is Monstress from Image.) But I've seen a lot of boostle floating around lately. It's awesome to see Boostle, but they're rarely ever happy or written with an authentic comedy bend, and Ted is still dead. 🙃

Q: Was Holster Cute As A Kid And Then Did A Reverse Ugly Duckling?

A: Mostly Yes. Holster was a cute kid because he had giant eyes and a nice smile but somewhere along the line--probably due to cartoon magic--he got giant chiclet teeth and his head got enormous. (see this post)

- it appears that he had smaller chiclet teeth in this photo
- I contend that Holster is weird looking but fandom has really pushed back on this
- "holster is canonically ugly"
- "wow rude" check please readers

OKAY!! I'm happy to no longer be traveling and to get back into drawing! More next week.
