✩ LIVESTREAM: I felt like I owed you guys a few more hours of streaming this month! (Since I'll be super disappearing in a week to move.) This evening at 6PM CST, I'll be inking a comic where Bitty plays hockey and also gets smushed a bit by very rude opponents. HERE ON PICARTO.

I talked a lot about Kickstarters and what I've learned from doing them!

I talked about my "theory for success in creative careers". It's obviously only a theory, but it's what I use as a diagnostic when I talk to students who are having trouble breaking into the industry.

The lecture lasted for about an hour and I spent the last 20 minutes talking about this. Essentially, I think that in creative careers, you need to have the passion to create art (love of craft), the ability to create art (work ethic), and the ability to find an audience or work that can pay you for your joyful toil. It's pretty practical!!! Extremely straight-forward! But you can really get into it.  For example, I have this idea that work ethic isn't simply just working hard. If you don't have work ethic, it doesn't mean you're "lazy". It's the self-awareness to know what resources and environment you yourself need as an artist in order to create. It's being honest about procrastinating and having both grit and self-care. It's knowing when you need to push yourself and when you need to take care of yourself. It's figuring out your special abacus so that you! Can make!! Pages!!
